“I would come down, Marty,” Sage said. “But I made a New Year’s resolution this year...”

“You never make New Year’s resolutions. You don’t believe in them.”

“I know, but I made a New Year’s resolution this year, and my mates - both of them - have been very good at helping make sure I check off that resolution almost every evening. Now, if you don’t mind, there’re two half-naked kraken shifters in the swimming pool – they’ve heated it for me and put out heat lamps on the patio, so I don’t get chilly. So I’m going for a swim now. I’ll catch up with you at seven, Marty. Have a good shift. Bye!”

Laughing, Sage disconnected the call before Marty could say anything else. Putting the phone down on the patio table, Sage reached for his glasses automatically to take them off. But he didn’t have to wear them anymore. Taking a running jump, Sage landed in the pool with a splash, spraying water all over his mates’ torsos.

“Hey, my lovely mates,” he said, swimming over, before treading water and swishing his wet hair off his face. “You heard me. I just told Marty that you two are helping me with my New Year’s resolution. Did you want to give a guy a hand? I’d hate for Marty to think I was lying to him.”

Sage started to laugh as tentacles came out from either side of him and hoisted him up into the air. As far as resolutions went, deciding to tangle with tentacles was the best and only resolution Sage would ever make. Some things just kept on giving, and his mates’ loving tentacles were just a few of them.
