“Nasty asses,” Sparkle said. Trini giggled.
I looked over at my man, remembering all the drama we went through, but seeing us here today, it was definitely all worth it.
Lennox walked past, waving at us and a plate of food he made for Mama Lara, making me smile.
“Kairi, I’m about to go meet your pops so we can go play golf,” he announced.
“Have fun!” I waved. My daddy retired and spent a lot of time hanging out with Lennox. I wanted him to find someone of his own, but he told me that he was happy living with the memories he shared with my mama.
“Lennox, you got that box I need?” Shakur popped his head in the room to ask. Lennox waved my brother to follow him. I looked at Trini, smiling in my head because she had no idea that my brother was about to propose as soon as she gave birth.
I leaned my elbow on the table, rested my chin in my palm, and smiled as I watched my family. This was what true peace looked like!
Tonight was The Society’s charity event, and it felt good being all dressed up for once. Other than this event or the one we continued to do in remembrance of Sincere, I barely showed my face.
I was content being home with my little boy.
Sparkle handed me a drink, and I thanked her before taking a sip.
Trini and Mama Lara were home together with Kelechi, so I planned on enjoying myself.
The doors to the ballroom opened, and in walked my husband, looking fine as ever in his tailored suit. He looked at me, and I felt my heart swell at the sight of him.
I never thought that I would fall for someone mixed up in this thing, but I couldn’t imagine spending my life with anyone else.
As Makari walked my way, I took a look around the room, seeing that every pair of eyes was on him. He was just that man, and he was all mine!
He finally made it over to our table and took a seat. He’d stepped out for a business call.
I peeked around again to see that everyone was still looking at him. That was just how amazing he was.
“Everyone is looking at you,” I let him know. Makari smiled and said, “I know, but my eyes are only on you, Kairi, and always will be.”
He pecked my lips, and I smiled, seeing that he was right—his eyes were on me!
The End
