“The baby will be fine,” Cagley said. “I’ve delivered several cybernetic children in the past year alone, and although the animal DNA remains in the cells that are transferred over, each child is happy and healthy, and becoming little mischievous progeny of their parents.”
They all sagged in unison.
“Good. That’s good to hear,” Rylie stammered.
Cagley wiped her hands on a cloth. “Let’s let Rylie rest now, I’m sure her mate would like to be with her for this next part.”
Janet leaned over her sister’s bed and planted a kiss on her brow. “Good luck.”
Rylie glowered back at her as Janet left the room.
It wasn’t like she had to worry—she wasn’t pregnant herself, and nor did she want to be any time soon. Lily was more than enough child for her and Hector, especially since her younger sister was constantly hounding them to go to Titan.
Janet gave her Ma a hug goodbye and left to go find Hector. She casually traipsed through the quiet, steel passageways of Ghost, ignoring the eyes of Cyborgs who looked on curiously. She heard Lily’s shrieking glee of excitement long before her sister came into view.
A Cyborg named Jayce was breathing fire into the air for her. Netto sat beside him, keeping an eye on her sister.
“Rylie is ready for you, big guy.” Janet winked. “I’ll take over from here.”
Netto stood quickly and left. Janet watched him go until he disappeared down the corridor.Damn, he’s a freaking hulk. She’ll always wonder what sex was like between the Shark and Rylie. Her sister was tiny compared to the big blue giant. Then again, everyone was tiny compared to him.
Two strong arms came up from behind to band over her stomach as a very familiar warm breath fanned her cheek. Janet sighed happily and leaned back into Hector. She’d never felt so safe, so protected, so loved, and as she watched Jayce entertain Lily with literalfireflies, her fear of Cyborgs diminished just a little bit more.
Hector nipped her ear. “Who am I?”
His favorite question.Janet smiled.
She opened her mouth...
“Home.”
