“Do you still want to get married?” she asked hopefully.

Gabe walked forward, drawn to her. He cupped his hands to her cheeks and bent down to give her a searing kiss.

When he broke it off, Britney smiled at him with delight. “Is that a yes?”

“You have got to stop proposing to me. We are going to do this right this time,” Gabe took Britney’s hands in his own and knelt down on one knee. “Britney Helena Crawford, I have made a mess of our entire relationship. Ever since I have known you, I have dismissed you and I didn’t appreciate you for who you were. I was wrong. You knew exactly how things should be between us and I just wouldn’t listen. I’m sorry. For putting you in that position, for hurting you and for making you wait so long for us. I’m going to change. I have changed. From now on, you are the most important person in my world. I promise to do whatever I can to make you happy.

“You were right. We do belong together,” Gabe gave her hands a squeeze and took a breath to try to overcome the small pit of anxiety in his stomach. He was ready for this confession, Gabe realized. He was ready to risk everything as long as it was with her. “Brit, I love you. Will you marry me?”

A joyful Britney nodded as tears formed in her eyes.

Grinning, Gabe stood, sweeping Britney off her feet and into his arms, twirling her around on the street.
