“But most of all, when hockey’s over and my writing days are through, I can’t wait to get old together. To annoy each other. To keep laughing together. To see each other out of this life. I can’t wait to do it all with you.”

I pressed my lips to hers, thinking of the thousands of kisses we’d share for years to come.

“I can’t imagine a better life than annoying each other for the rest of it.” She beamed and my heart felt full to bursting. “And hey, I know what you can call your next standup tour.”

“Oh yeah? What’s that?”

“You know how there’s puck bunnies?”

She nodded and quirked a brow. “I’m aware of the term. Pretty sure it’s been lobbed my way at some point.”

“Call your show Puck Funny.”

Epilogue

Guy and Kitty,

I am so happy that you’re reading this letter. I trusted Heather to give it to you if this moment ever came to be. So if you’re reading this, that means it’s your wedding day. I long hoped this day would come. Know that I am there with you, and I’m so proud of you both.

I knew from the time that you laid eyes on each other that you were meant to be together.

Kitty, you just “get” Guy. The way you are to him is beautiful. You let him be himself. That’s the most a mother could hope for her son. He has the biggest heart. Let him love you the way you deserve. You love him that way, too. If he’s screwing up, tell him. If he doesn’t listen, tell him I said he has to.

Guy, Kitty is exactly the partner you need. Listen to her. She’s smart. Do not take that precious girl for granted. Stay true to her. Don’t let your father’s mistakes make you doubt yourself. You are not him, nor are you me. You are you, and you’re perfect. You have what it takes to be everything she needs.

I hope that as your lives go on, you remember how special your bond is. It will be tested, but you can make it if you try. A love like yours doesn’t come along every day. Honor it. Care for it. All I ever asked was that you try, and that led you to today.

And if you choose to have children, Eva makes a great middle name.

All my love,

Maman
