“Perfect, text me when you’re en route.”

“Will do,” she mutters and we say our goodbyes.

Walking out of the office, I see another one of Creed’s cars. A green Aston Martin DBX707 is sitting there, and my heart jackhammers in my chest. I hope to God he doesn’t come out anytime soon and I can sneak out without being caught.

Walking with my head down and my coat pulled around me, the cold air nips at my skin and I curse when I see the grey clouds rolling in.

“Not now.” I sigh just as I feel a drop of rain hit the top of my head. Within minutes, the rain is pouring down, and I dart under the roof of the building and stand there.

Soaking wet, I curse under my breath as I shrug my coat off and place it over my head.

“Ace.” His voice causes a shiver to tickle up my spine, and I try to ignore him, ducking my head and walking back into the rain.

“Anaïs!” he calls again, his voice louder as he gets closer.

I feel his hand grabbing me, pulling me back so I have no choice but to stop.

“What?” I spin, my eyes bouncing between his and his eyes flick with familiarity.

“Nothing,” he snaps, droplets of rain running off his head and down his nose.

“Go inside, you’ll catch a chill,” I say with a little more care than intended.

“I’ll be fine.” He shrugs it off and I hear his car unlock.

“I’ve got to go…” I pause, twisting on my heel, but he tugs me back.

“Get in the car, Ace.” His tone is curt and to the point.

I blink at him, mouth opening and closing. “Don’t tell me what to do.” I furrow my brow at him, scowling.

“Don’t be a brat, now.” He reaches for my wrist, curling his fingers around it before dragging me towards his car.

“Get off me,” I snarl but all he does is chuckles.

I couldn’t even get him off me if I wanted to.

“Creed, stop.” I try and pull my hand out of his, but he just tightens his grip.

Opening his door, he shoves me into the passenger side and slams the door.

“Asshole.” I growl as he climbs in next to me, closing his own door. He glares at me, and I roll my eyes.

“Why are you avoiding me?” He sounds hurt.

“Because it’s for the best, we had that one night…” I shrug.

“And?”

“Well, we got it out of our systems… at least I did.” My eyes slice to him and he shakes his head.

“You’ll never be out of my system.”

I swallow, my heart thrashing inside my chest and I hate that he affects me in this way. Hate that all I want to do right now is kiss him, to drag his lips onto mine and lose myself in him.

I was desperate, actually.

But I would never let him know.
