“I didn’t know I needed an invitation.”

He squints suspiciously. “Who did you bring with you?”

“Gramps, I’d like to formally introduce you to my wife, Ursula.”

“Sula,” I interject. “Friends and family call me Sula.”

A bear of a man steps into the light and I’m startled to find my husband’s eyes in his craggy face. It takes less than two seconds for me to tumble head over heels in love when he bellows, “It’s about damn time you brought her to me. Now, get your bags. You can have the upstairs room.”

On a wave of masculine energy, I’m swept inside to be shown around by two generations of Ronan men.

I stretch in the full-size bedtucked beneath the eaves and feel the length of Arek’s body rub up against me. He groans against my breast, “Grandma, there’s no need to get up yet.”

Ever so carefully, I yank the pillow from behind my head before beating him with it.

His laughter echoes in the small room in the attic. Ripping my weapon away, he presses his lips to mine. “Morning, sweetheart.”

Adding a bit of creak in my voice, I hold a hand up to my ear. “Eh? Can’t hear you.”

He laughs again before stealing another kiss. Then his nose starts sniffing the air like a hound dog. “Is that...?”

“The best smell in the world,” I reply dreamily.

Humored, he buries his face in my neck. “Bacon grease? Should I bathe in it?”

“Completely acceptable.”

“Who knew that all it takes is a bit of fresh air, bacon—”

“And you. Then again, I’m not cooking.”

He tweaks my nose ring, eyes dancing. “Sula, we want to explore and not spend the day at urgent care. We’re not allowing you near a stove.”

Arek takes advantage of my laughter and gives me a wakeup call that’s better than bacon.

Arek grouses after seeing my post over coffee. “You didn’t mention you had backstage passes for the concert tonight.”

I roll my eyes at his grandfather—who told me to call him Edward after hugging me seconds after meeting him. “What your grandson doesn’t realize is I have four more sets of these tickets, which I’ll be happy to share with him. But meeting you”—I smile dreamily at the older man—“that’s worth anything. These stories you’ve been telling me are priceless.”

“I’m beginning to think you’re going to leave me for my grandfather,” Arek grumbles. But he drops a kiss on my cheek as he picks up my coffee mug to refill it.

“Watch it, kid! If I was just a few years younger, I’d give you a run for your newly misbegotten money.”

Arek winks at me before sitting across from me and taking my hand in his. “What money?”
