"Nice try, Zeysor," The Terruxian said. "The Commander sent me to kill you. He said it wouldn't be easy. Looks like he was wrong."

Zeysor flinched as the laser hit him in the shoulder, leaving scorch marks on his hard skin. "The Commander sent you? Pathetic!" He spat.

"What are you going to do with those weak human weapons?" The alien sneered.

Zeysor grinned. "Terruxian flesh is impenetrable to metal, but every species has a weakness." He lashed out with a roundhouse kick, knocking the Hunter back. The next second, Zeysor had plunged the knife deep into his eye socket.

The Hunter fell to the ground, dead instantly.

I gasped, rushing forward. "Zeysor! Are you ok?"

"Fine," Zeysor panted. He pushed the alien's body off the path, just in case anyone came by.

"What do we do now?" I asked, unable to look at the Hunter's body. The blood was still flowing down his face.

"No one will believe us," Zeysor said, wiping the blood from his knife.

I'd just seen an alien die before my eyes. He would have killed us if Zeysor hadn't killed him first. I wiped my eyes before tears could fall.

"Are you ok?" Zeysor asked.

"Fine, just shaken," I admitted. "The Commander hasn't given up his search."

Zeysor held my hand tightly. "Don't worry, whatever comes, we'll be ready. I promise I will protect you until the day I die. Trust me."

The dead alien didn't make the news. I was sure that the government hushed up whoever reported it.

The memory was stained in my mind for days and days. I was constantly looking over my shoulder and double-checking the locks.

Zeysor came up behind me while I was cooking one day, and I flinched at his touch. "Sorry," I whispered. "I've just been so tense."

"I can't stand to see you so nervous," Zeysor said. "What can I do to help?"

I shrugged. "I don't know," I said. "I'm just afraid another Hunter is going to crash in and try to kill us."

Zeysor held my hands in his. "I would do anything for you. If you want me to slay the Commander myself, I will do it."

"No. No more killing. I just want peace," I said.

Zeysor kissed my forehead. "Then let's go somewhere that they won't find us."

"But you love this place," I said, my protest fading when I realized moving was probably the best solution to this problem that didn't involve murder.

"Anywhere you are is home to me," Zeysor said. "As long as I have you, my life is perfect. I love you."

I smiled up at my mate. "Where did you want to go?"

"Anywhere."
