"Relax It's just a graze," Nova replies.

"I'm talking about how y’all ended up at Pearce's place when you were supposed to be getting supplies."

“You told us to get supplies we never said we were actually going to do it. Cacey happened to know Alexa's last address, and that seemed like the first logical place to look. I'd say everything worked out.”

"Four dead bodies and you shot… is everything working out?! Cacey shouldn’t have even been anywhere near there."

"I was in the car." Cacey tries to add her two cents, but I pin her with a look. I'm so pissed. If anything had happened to either of them, I don't know what I'd do.

"There were only two dead bodies when I left." Nova says in protest.

"What do you think Tim was going to do when he decided to cover for you? Leave two people that could place you there alive? Luckily our guy was able to pull all the security footage of you before the police got to them." Nova sobers up a bit at that statement. She knows her being there and her history with domestic violence would only complicate the situation.

"You want into this full-time Nova you have to follow orders, be more of a team player and use your head.

Be ready, because as soon as we get the green light from the authorities we're out. Oh, and Cacey, I'm telling your brother and maybe your daddy too." I threaten as I leave, only intending to tell Chance the rest of the details about our sisters’ role in all of this.

Five Months Later

Alex

After our time in New York, Nova and I have seemed to come to an understanding. We're not friends yet but I go to all her classes at the gym. I run… I fight… wear actual workout clothes, and all those other things I used to shy away from. I'm actually on my way to a class right now when Chance comes through the door with a large floral arrangement sitting them on the desk.

"Are those for me?" I ask, smiling while I'm standing, gym bag in hand. Things have been going great between us at home and at work. And we've just landed one of the biggest accounts in the company's history. I assume that’s the reason for the flowers.

"I thought we were celebrating tonight?" Chance says, putting the flowers on the desk before he comes around, effectively cornering me by bracing his hands on the desk on either side of my body.

“We are. After I leave the gym, I'm all yours,” I respond in a sweet sugary voice I used to detest.

"How about now, are you all mine right now?" He asks, coming in for a kiss as he reaches his hand into my shirt lighting tracing circles onto my lower back. I drop my gym bag to deepen the kiss and wrap my legs around him, pulling him into me as he grinds into my sex. No matter how many times I've been in this position, I still get intoxicated by the way my senses are overloaded with his smell, his touch, and his kisses. Today may be the day he gets that elusive office sex, I think to myself. This was probably his plan all along. Put on my favorite suit, butter me up with flowers, and then go in for the kill. But he missed one detail I realize when Cacey charges through the unlocked door.

"You rea - dy..." she asks, trailing off when she takes in the scene realizing no, I'm not ready.

Chance and I, with a severely delayed reaction, jump up and break apart, causing my flowers to fall onto the floor, sending glass everywhere. I go to clean up the mess and my heart drops when I pick up the card that came with the arrangement.
