There’s a beat of stunned silence between us, broken only by the thud of my heartbeat in my ears. His eyes widen, shock flashing across his face in a way I rarely get to see—genuine, unfiltered emotion that rocks through him like a wave.

“Principessa…you’re…”

I nod. “Pregnant. I’m saying all that practicing? It paid off.”

He laughs, the sound low and disbelieving as it spills out of him. Then he pulls me into a kiss so deep, it makes my head spin and heart flutter.

We part at first to look each other in the eye, then come back together for another kiss and then another until we’re trading too many to count.

When we do finally break apart for good, we’re laughing from how thrilled we are. I press a hand to my still flat stomach and smile up at him.

“We’re really doing it, Cato.”

He rests his hand over mine as if in awe, the laughter fading from his handsome, chiseled face.

“We are,” he agrees. “We’re starting our own family. One that doesn’t look like the past. One that proves our union didn’t just end the war but will build a new legacy…”
