Charlotte had seen them, too. “Two of them, three of us. The math isn’t right.”
“You two got here first,” Brandi said. “I’ll take myself out of the running on this one.”
Charlotte laughed, and put a mini tablet on the table, reminding Brandi of her cousin. “While they’re circling and gathering courage, I need you guys to help me restructure my profile. I haven’t had any blind dates this week.”
Paisley took a small nip of her vanilla. “I shouldn’t even be having this.” She stared at her cup. “My younger brother is getting married and I’m under pressure to find a date, lest my family harass me about being over thirty and unmarried. Because I should settle instead of being happy.” She grimaced and put her cup down.
“How many dates have you gone on?” Brandi asked her.
“Two this week. Neither of them the potato to my chip. It’s exhausting. I’d much rather stay home and read.” Paisley took another spoonful. “But my family is also exhausting, so onward I go.”
“You need my calendar more than I do,” Charlotte said. She brushed her fingers through her short hair, giving those twomen another look.
“Nice,” Paisley said. “Subtle.”
“Thanks. It’s too bad you guys don’t speak French. We could talk about them and sound sexy all at the same time.”
Brandi grinned. Sebastien could probably teach her a few phrases, like kiss me, or ooh, harder, right there. “I didn’t know you spoke French.”
“I had a minor in college, and now I try to read French literature so I don’t forget any of it. I go to the South of France when I can scrape up enough money, too.”
“What about you, Brandi?” Paisley raised her eyebrows. “Something’s got you smiling. What’s up with your dating scene?”
She thought of the books Sebastien brought her. “I have been doing a lot of reading these days.”
“No, I mean, date-wise. What’s happening with you?”
Brandi shoved a spoonful in her mouth.
“Ooh.” Charlotte flipped her tablet closed and rested her chin on crossed fingers. “Tell us.”
“Oh. Um.” Brandi fiddled with her spoon. “I deleted the app.”
“What? Why?” Charlotte asked. “But then again, you’re pretty enough for apps that show your picture.”
“Oh, come on.” She made a face. “The whole point was to not encourage any preconceived ideas because of my looks.”
“Well, how many frogs have you met?” Paisley asked.
“It’s not that. I’m sort of dating someone.”
“Success!” Paisley gave a squeak of happiness. “This is great! Tell us all about him. Is this that Nick guy? The one from the coffee shop? And does he have a brother?”
“Well, it’s still very new. We’ve gone out to dinner, things like that.”
Things like that.
“Where did he take you?” Charlotte asked.
Brandi swallowed. “For seafood.”
“Fancy.” Paisley said. “Was it a YBD match?”
“No, actually. Someone I already knew.” She put more ice cream in her mouth. “This is delicious. How did you guys know about this place?”
“I went here on a date, and don’t change the subject,” said Charlotte.
Fine. “He has brothers, but his family isn’t from around here. I think they’re married, though.”
