She was just playing games, and I knew that in order to get to Jenna I would have to play along. I went up the stairs to the third floor. I could hear another call coming in on my phone, and I realized that Reed was trying to get through to me. I declined his call to keep Sofia on the line.

“Which room?” I asked.

“Check them all,” Sofia replied.

I went into each room, but there was no sign of Jenna.

“Oops… looks like she’s not on the third floor either.”

I raced up the stairs to the fourth floor. It had no rooms. Just open space that left no place to hide. But there were large pillars in the corner that could have easily hidden a grown man. I raced towards the pillar and saw Jenna sitting behind it. Her mouth was tied, and so were her hands. She was crying silently, and when she saw me, she let out a sound that made my heart ache.

I dropped my phone and rushed to her, removing her bindings so that her hands were free and she could speak. She flung her arms around me the moment I had freed her, and I hugged her tight against my body.

“It’s okay, my darling,” I whispered in her ear. “You’re okay. I’m going to get you out of here, okay?”

“Taylor… I want to go home,” Jenna sobbed. “I want Daddy.”

“I know you do, darling,” I said, trying to stay as calm as possible. “And I’m going to get you to him. You don’t have to worry anymore.”

I tried to stand up, but Jenna was clinging to me so tightly that I slipped and fell to the ground. The whole time she refused to let me go, and I understood how badly she needed me to protect her now. I felt the fear leave my body as I realized that I was Jenna’s best hope at this point. It was up to me to save her. I might not be able to get out of this myself, but Jenna certainly could.

“Jenna, come on, sweetheart, we have to go.”

“No,” Jenna said, with wide eyes. “I have to stay here. Sofia said she'd hurt me if I didn’t stay here.”

I gritted my teeth together. “Jenna, are you listening to me?”

Jenna nodded slightly.

“Trust me,” I said, looking her in the eye. “You’re going to be okay, but you have to come with me. Now.”

“Aww, how touching,” Sofia’s voice came from right behind me. “I would cry if I wasn’t so nauseous at the sight of the two of you together.”

I held fast to Jenna’s hand and stood up to face Sofia, with my heart beating frantically against my chest.
