“Same here,” Lucien mutters with a scowl that twists his features.

“What does that mean?” Tugging on my arm, she gets louder. “What didn’t you hear?”

“Music.” Speaking slowly, I glance between my brothers. “We found you, and I was there just in time because we heard your music. It appears that we can’t hear it anymore.”

“And?” My mate is getting frantic, and fear is written all over her porcelain face. I pull her into my arms.

“We will find a way, little Muse. I promise, we’ll find them.” A grunt bursts from my lips when her little fist wedges itself in my gut.

“Stop calling me little,” she hisses against my chest, and Moël barks out a laugh, covering it with a cough when I glare at him. Even Lucien is fighting a grin, the grumpy bastard. “I know!” Melody’s voice is muffled from my shirt, so she shoves with both hands for me to release her. I reluctantly do, much to my brothers’ amusement.

“What is that, love? What do you know?” Rubbing at my stomach where she practiced her obviously good right hook, I look down at her.

“There is this song.” Lucien groans at that, but my shark-like look cuts off his bullshit. Melody glares at him for a long moment too before slowly turning back to face me. “As I was saying before I was rudely interrupted”—Moël chuckles and her lips twitch for a second, but she continues enthusiastically—“there is this song that we played ever since we became friends. We kinda made it up, but anyway … I know for sure that if she hears me play the first notes, Viola will follow along. If I’m close enough to where she can hear me, I have no doubt I’ll hear her as well.”

“It sounds like a good plan to me,” Moël pipes in, and Melody smiles at him so sweetly I want to punch his smug face. “It’s the only one we have, but it’s good, nonetheless. I’m game.”

“I see you found a way to make sure that you are not left behind, little Muse.” Shaking my head, I chuckle when her fists flies at my face, but I snatch her hand in my palm and tug her back into my arms. “Let us try it your way.”

“We will be there, brother.” All humor forgotten, Moël regards me evenly. “We won’t allow anything to happen to your mate.”

“Thank you, brother. I will hold you to your word.” Arm tightening around Melody, I can’t help the trepidation coursing through my veins.

“Very well. Let’s go get the damn females out. I need to kill something; it’s been too long,” Lucien growls with a feral look in his eyes, and Melody shrinks into me.

“You can stop being an asshole now, Lucien. After all, one of the said females could be your mate,” Moël snaps, and much to my pleasure, Lucien’s face drains of all the color.

“ Que le destin nous vienne en aide.” My middle brother sounds like he is about to faint, and both Moël and I burst out laughing.

“What did he say?” Melody pokes me in the ribs to get my attention and I wink down at her.

“He said fates help us, but I think what he meant to say was, he is fucked.”

We all laugh, the joyful sound echoing through the room while Lucien looks like he would like nothing more than to rip our hands off.

“Oh, that’s a given. If either Viola or Harmony are his mate, I can guarantee that he is fucked.” Melody giggles, gleefully staring at Lucien. A payback for being an ass in front of her this whole time, I’m sure.

I have my mate, safe and smiling next to me, Lucien is getting his ass chewed and it seems like Moël is allowing his carefree mask to slip, my youngest brother lowering his walls and letting us finally in. I knew Melody was special the second I saw her. My mate will bring us back together and we will find who killed our father and is plotting against us, too. There is not a doubt left in my mind.

Nothing could wipe the smug grin off my face.
