“Johnny seems to think we’ve got a chance at the Challenge Cup with the team we’ll have,” I say.

“Do you think I’m making a mistake?” he asks.

“Is this about Vicky?”

He doesn’t need to answer me. I know it’s about Vicky. It’s always about Vicky.

He hasn’t gone into detail about what happened at Christmas, but all I know is he told her he was done.

She broke his heart twice, so I can’t blame him. I think he’d be foolish to let her back in after everything that’s happened.

“Sorry, the queue for the ladies is always massive,” Jen says, sitting down next to me.

We came to Canada after the season ended, and we’ve spent a few months here, giving Jen the chance to see her beloved Senators lose in the first round of the Playoffs.

We travelled around a bit, Jen still working remotely the entire time, before deciding to stay in Winnipeg for a month.

The next big thing was putting my apartment up for sale, so we had to clear my things out and ship what I wanted to keep over to the UK.

“Why is this so complicated?” Liam says.

“What did I miss?” Jen asks.

“Vicky,” both Liam and I say simultaneously.

“Ah, right.”

“Well, I’m sure she’s excited to see you,” Jen tells Liam.

I can guarantee, that she isn’t at all excited to see him.

“How’re you feeling about living with Danny?” I ask, trying to shift the conversation away from Vicky.

“Fine. He seems like a nice guy,” Liam says honestly.

“He is. But don’t let him use your laptop,” she warns with a smile.

“It’s not Danny I’m worried about,” Liam says before changing the subject again. “Seen any houses you like?”

Jen and I are planning on buying a house. We’ve seen a few places online that we’re keen to view when we get back. Jen has set up viewings.

In the meantime, Vicky is letting me stay with Jen until we find something since Liam will share with Danny, and I’d rather stay with Jen than Johnny.

“We’re viewing a few places when we get back, but there’s one Jen is really keen on,” I say, pulling my phone out and browsing for the listing.

“Christ, you two are getting really serious. Next, you’ll be married,” Liam says.

“About that—”

And then there’s a call for us to board our flight.
