Epilogue
“Come on London and Junior, jump!” Lennox yelled to his brother and sister.
Two-year-old Junior was the first to run and jump in the pool, followed by his twin sister, London.
“Oh Lord, have mercy,” Ella said as she held her chest.
“Calm down grandma. They’ve been taking swimming lessons for a year. They know what they’re doing,” Landon laughed as he cradled his newest addition in his arms.
Not long after the twins made a year old, he and Faryn tried for another one. They didn’t have to try for long and their daughter, Lyric, was now three months old. Landon was happy that he had another daughter and they were done. He and Faryn both agreed that their family was big enough. Lyric was the last blessing that they wanted to receive in the form of children.
“I know, but I can never get used to that. They scare the hell out of me every time I see it,” Ella replied.
“I think all parents should make sure their kids can swim, even if they don’t have a pool,” Makena spoke up.
It was her idea to send her son and her nephews to Mr. Fish’s swimming school and she made sure that the twins went too. She and Landon had built-in pools, but his was way bigger than hers.
“I just signed my baby up too. We don’t have a pool, but he’ll be able to swim whenever we come over here,” Harley spoke up.
Her son, KJ, was a year old and cute as could be. She and Kyron wanted another one, but they wanted to wait a while. They were enjoying the one that they had for now.
“He’s gonna love it. The twins hate when they have to get out of the water,” Faryn replied.
She and Landon had an impromptu barbecue and she invited her friend and her husband over. Harley loved when Landon put lobster tails on the grill and he had an ice chest full of them. Makena picked Ella up and she prepared all the sides to go with everything.
“Here baby, hold her while I start putting this food on the grill,” Landon said while handing Faryn their daughter.
“Where are your brothers and sister, Faryn?” Ella asked her.
“My sister and Clarence are on a cruise and my brothers are supposed to be coming over. I’ll just put them some food up because it’ll probably be late when they do,” Faryn replied.
“They better stop all that whoring around out there. These women ain’t playing that mess no more. Two girls showed up to my house for Aiden, talking about they’re his girlfriends. They were about to fight on my porch until I threatened to call the police. That’s just why I put his ass out. I’m too old for that bullshit,” Ella fussed.
“It’s gon’ be even worse now that he’s in his own place. But, that’s on him. As long as they don’t bring the drama to your doorstep, I don’t have nothing to say,” Makena replied.
“I’m sorry that Robin moved her disgusting ass so close. I just want to be left alone sometimes. I don’t need her coming over there every damn day. She got two kids and six grandkids and she’s still alone. That’s what she gets though. She thought she was big shit when she was living in Leroy’s big house and driving his new Cadillac.”
“Why didn’t she just stay with Ava, so she wouldn’t have to be by herself?” Faryn asked.
“Chile, Ava got her a new man now. She didn’t want Robin there all the time no more,” Ella noted.
“I feel bad for him already.” Makena frowned.
“I don’t like him. He reminds me too much of Kane. High yellow sneaky looking ass,” Ella replied.
“You don’t like nobody grandma,” Landon said when he walked back over to them.
“Boy, please. I can spot a liar from a mile away. But, Ava is grown and that’s all on her,” Ella replied.
“You used to always tell me that Malia was sneaky too,” Landon reminded her.
“And I was right on the money with her too. I’m happy that she got herself together now though. My babies said that she’s about to be graduating from college soon,” Ella said.
“Yeah, she is,” Faryn confirmed.
“That’s good. I’m just happy that she’s doing right by my nephews,” Makena said.
“That makes two of us,” Landon replied.
Landon got up and started taking the food off the grill. Makena held her niece, while Faryn got the twins out of the pool to eat. Once the table was filled with the food, Landon said the grace and they all dug in soon after. Faryn sat in the chair next to husband and he pulled her closer.
“Baby number six,” Harley joked when she saw them kissing.
“Nah, we’re all done with babies,” Landon replied as he and Faryn ate from the same plate.
Faryn giggled like a school girl every time he kissed her, as if it were their first time. She remembered thinking that they wouldn’t make it to their first-year anniversary when Jo-Jo tried to kill her outside the club. Now, she was blessed that they were approaching year three.
Faryn looked around at all the love that surrounded her, and she couldn’t help but smile. She didn’t do bad for herself, being that she was an ex stripper born to a drug-addicted mother. For as long as she could remember, Faryn had always wanted a family. When she was younger, she dreamed of having a mother, father, and siblings under one roof, but things didn’t work out that way. Faryn had a rough upbringing, but she refused to dwell on that. She’d learned a while ago that all families weren’t traditional with mothers, fathers, and kids all under one roof. Looking around at everyone seated at the table, she found that to be true. Non-traditional families are what some people called it. She wasn’t related to all of them by blood or through marriage, but they were her family nonetheless.
