As soon as the song is over, I put my mic on the stand and dance with my backup dancers. Who have become my regulars instead of a few getting fired every week. I shake my ass in a line with them, my back turned to the audience, then I turn around and lift my shirt so they can see my tits. The crowd goes insane but my eyes are only on Gus.
I once asked them if it bothered them that I like showing off my body, especially my tits like this. The only thing they said was, “I’d only have a problem if you let someone else touch them. It’s your body and I just hope you’ll keep choosing to let me be the only one to touch them.”. They understood this wasn’t some cry for help or looking to be accepted. I was looking for attentionand I got it, I wasn’t searching for validation. Plus, I’ve noticed at the shows where I do show my body, Gus is practically feral for me by the time we’re alone. Something I was hoping would be true of tonight.
Georgie was going out with a guy we met last night which I hoped would be aa good change from her luck with New York guys. This one actually asked for her phone number instead of her snap chat like a frat boy. Which meant Gus and I would be at the AirBnb all alone for a few hours. Hours I’d be taking full advantage of. I was exhausted from this trip and I needed a few hours of unwinding and coming with the love of my life.
“I have one last song, this one’s for all the lovers! My beautiful partner is in the crowd tonight, can everyone give them a good cheer!?” I shout and Gus turns bright red. They have no idea what I’m about to do, but I knew this is where I wanted to. “Can we get them to come on up here?”
Security, who does know about this plan, carefully helps Gus onto the stage. They bashfully wave to the crowd who goes crazy just seeing them come up here. Georgie is recording, knowing exactly what’s going on.
“Gus and I have only been together a bit over a year, but damn what a year that has been. I mean I’M AT FUCKING COACHELLA BABY!” I pull Gus in for a lingering kiss and we get a variety of whistles. “I couldn’t have gotten here without them, they are truly the light when things get dark.”
One of my dancers runs over, hands me a small pink box and the crowd freaks out. Gus gasps and I drop to one knee.
“I couldn’t be here without you and I never want to spend another moment without you by my side. Will you do me the honor of marrying me, Gus?” I pop open the box and show a thin shiny black band. I knew Gus wouldn’t want some flashy engagement ring like I did, so I found something that suited them.
“Yes!” Gus nods and I jump up, forgetting about the ring and throwing my arms around Gus’ neck. Our kiss deepens, me momentarily forgetting there’s a crowd of people waiting for me to sing again. But I put the ring on Gus, and smile.
“How about one more song?!” I shout to the crowd.
Gus is led to the side of the stage so they won’t be in the way and I can’t wait for this song to be over. Gus was mine, officially going to be mine for the rest of our lives. I was over the moon with emotion. My singing never felt this good. I take peeks at Gus as I sing, the way they look at me burning into my brain for later.
