He pressed a kiss into her hair. “I want to do this the right way,” he said. “I want to show you the whole world if that’s what you want.”

Laura lay against him for a long while, quiet and contemplative. “My whole world is here,” she said, but then a sneaky grin grew across her face. “But it might be fun to go somewhere and lie on a beach and get tanned.”

Daryl hummed appreciatively. “Will you promise to wear the tiniest bathing suit that you can find?”

She outright laughed. “You would have a coronary if another man stared at me like that.”

He wanted to say that of course he wouldn’t; he wasn’t a crazy, possessive man. He understood perfectly well that Laura was gorgeous and that other people were going to notice. There was nothing he would or even wanted to do about that. But…her lying on the golden sand in some string bikini for other men to feast their eyes on? He wouldn’t like it.But she could do it if she really wanted to, he thought decisively.I wouldn’t try and stop her or anything. Laura patted his chest. “Relax,” she soothed him. “I’m not one to make a display out of myself anyway.”

“But if it could be just you and me, would you?” he asked with a wink. “Pretty please?”

She shrugged, but there was a naughty smile on her lips. “Guess you’ll have to wait and see.”

Daryl held her close, feeling lighter than he had in years. “I’d wait for you forever and a day,” he said.

She tipped her head up so that her chin rested on his chest. “No more waiting,” she murmured. “We waited long enough.”

He couldn’t agree more.
