“Never mind that, where are my dogs?”

“When I came to meet the firemen the dogs were gone.” I closed my eyes.

“The real catastrophe that occurred was that Sam and the puppy are missing. Cole is going to be upset as well as I am. You are once again responsible for my lost dogs, and this time it’s not one but two. You better get my dogs back, even if you have to pay a detective to find out what happened to them. Start at the security desk in the lobby. Find out, Jay. Are you listening to me? I’ll see you soon.”

Cole turned, and said, “What was that about Sam and the puppy?”

“Nothing, baby. Just get some sleep. I’ll be gone for a few hours to check on Sam and the puppy at the bar, because that’s where Jay brought them. There’s something I have to take care of at Pluck the Cherry also.”

Cole turned, made a soft sound then turned over and quietly snored before I exited the bed. I watched him fall into an easy sleep and I knew now this wasn’t the time to tell him that Sam was missing again, and this time someone might have taken him, along with my puppy.

I really should name him, I thought as I lumbered to the restroom, bent over and stared into the mirror, and then I tried to pluck out that one dreaded strand of white hair before I showered and headed to the bar.

Another day like this after everything appeared to be working out in my favor, had my mind relaxed, but in turmoil especially since Cole and I had come to an agreement.All the things that could go wrong had,I thought.

However, I received a text from Julian. How did he get my number? My hand trembled at the thought he would text me.

Maybe now wasn’t the time to open Pandora’s Box. Maybe now was the time to pretend Julian didn’t exist in my life anymore, and go on with my day and forget that damn text, and read it when I could stomach Julian’s words. But when would that be? “Never,” I mumbled. Go on and get it over with.He can’t hurt you now. I told myself and I opened his text.

Julian:I know it’s you Daniel who has my boy. Don’t try to lie to me because I know everything about you from your tight hole to every burn mark on your body you tried to cover up with tattoos. You owe me. I should have taken that cherry when I had the chance. You were mine once and if you don’t bring me Charles, then I will find some way to get to Cole and you will lose him forever. Who will it be? Cole or Charles?
