“Duty calls, sir?” Kurt asked.

“Duty indeed does call, and I am afraid I’ll have to cut this to my last pint, and I’ll have to be on my way.”

“The missus?” He gave me a wink.

“There are only three things in the world that would make me leave an unfinished pint on the bar,” I said.

“The Queen calling?” he said.

“Aye, if the Queen called, I would leave a pint behind. The second would be my lady calling, which she has.”

“What is the third?”

“Nazis. I would leave a full pint on the bar if it meant taking one of them out of the world.” Kurt offered a toast. I clinked my pint against his and drained mine in a single pull.

“You okay to drive?”

“These cars today, they drive themselves, plus you know I have a hollow leg.” I laughed.

I got into the Aston and pulled away from the curb, and turned toward the house on the bluff, overlooking the Chesapeake. It was time to go…
