It felt like coming home. From the moment she’d sang him to sleep, her heart called out to his. Her very soul beckoned him back from the edge of darkness. He shuddered to think what he had planned before she brought her bright-yellow car and her seven things into his world.
Tami ended the kiss and melded their foreheads together. “I love you so much.”
Those words would never cease to soothe his soul.
“I love you too, angel, more than you’ll ever know.”
“Chandler, there’s something I need to tell you.” She created distance between them. Curiosity was riding him hard. His Bandit wore a wicked little grin, one that reminded him of the day they cleaned Chester’s—his—jacket.
She had a secret.
He didn’t have to wait long, because Harold stage-whispered, “I think she’s going to tell him about the baby.”
Everything ground to a halt.
Baby.
Baby.
Tell him about…“Are we… expecting?”
Motion from his periphery caught his attention. Constance slapped Harold on the bicep. “What is it with the males in this family and spoiling surprises? You don’t hear me running around and announcing how we bought the house next door, do you? Hm?”
Everyone turned to Constance, even Chester looked up at her then. “Oh, fiddlesticks. Sorry, but did we forget the part where I’m getting another grandbaby?”
Harold, Chester, Constance, the birds in the trees, the soft summer breeze, all of it faded away.
“A baby?” Chandler could hardly believe it.
Tami nodded as tears of joy flowed down her face.
“A wedding?” she asked.
Chandler dipped his head to her ear.
“Yep. A wedding and a baby. We just need to decide which is going to come first.”
