Jarek stared at her as the words kept swirling through his mind.Joy, like he couldn’t remember what it felt like, rushed through him.He caught her in his arms and twirled her around in the confined space of the elevator.

“You’re pregnant?We’re going to have a baby?”

“Yes, my love.”She shrugged.“There were definitely higher forces at play, which is why I know we are meant to be.”

“What do you mean?”

“I never stopped taking my contraceptives because I was serious when I said I wouldn’t bring a child into a world of crime.”She looked at him with concern.“Am I bringing our child into a world of crime, Jarek?”

For the first time, Jarek could see the path light up ahead of him, one where crime and the mafia played no role. Now, he had more reason than ever to find the man he had buried deep beneath the burden of hatred and revenge.

“No, my love. Here stands your husband, Jarek Farrel, the entrepreneur and owner of Bolton Enterprises. The Dark One and the Somerville Mafia now belong to Declan and Nevil.”

“Now see, I knew you would make the right decision.”She turned in his arms and pressed the button to open the doors.“Now, let’s make another good decision and have some hot, kinky fun.”Her eyes glimmered.“Fun being the operative word.I refuse to stress out our baby with my ass being whipped.”

“Got it, my love.No ass whipping until after our child is born.”

Tatiana

One year later...GlasnevinCemetery, Dublin, Ireland...

Autumn leaves danced along the cobblestone path as Tatiana, Jarek, and baby Ruan made their way through the ancient cemetery.Celtic crosses and weathered headstones stretched into the distance while morning mist clung to the ground like a delicate veil.

“This is your time, my love.I’ll sit here.Take your time with your family.”

“Are you sure? You are my family now, Tatiana. This is—”

“I know why we’re here, Jarek, and I love you for bringing Ruan and me with you, but you need the time alone with them.I’ll be here when you’re ready to introduce me.For now...go, be with them.”

As Jarek took their four-month-old son and walked toward the little gate in the white picket fence, Tatiana’s heart swelled with love and understanding. The two graves beneath the ancient oak tree seemed to welcome him home.

From her position on the stone bench, she watched her husband kneel between the graves, cradling their son.Raw grief and love mingled in his voice as it carried across the morning air.

“Lisbet, my sweet little Emma, I’m so sorry I haven’t been back for so long.”His shoulders shuddered.“I broke apart when I lost you.Instead of honoring your memory with love, I chose darkness.I became a man you wouldn’t have recognized...wouldn’t have loved.”

Tears rolled down Tatiana’s cheeks as Jarek poured out two decades of pain. She understood now why he had needed her here—not just as support but as a bridge between his past and future. Her presence wasn’t an intrusion as she had worried it might be, but a completion of his journey.

“I used your deaths as an excuse to become everything you both stood against.”His voice cracked.“I should have spent those years remembering your smiles, your laughter...instead, I filled them with violence and revenge.”

Ruan cooed softly in his arms and reached for a fallen leaf.

“But then,”—Jarek looked down at their son—“life gave me a second chance.A chance to remember how to love again.”He touched each headstone gently.“You’ll always live in my heart, but this will be my last visit. Not because I’m forgetting—never that—but because I finally understand that moving forward doesn’t mean leaving you behind.”

He turned, and, catching Tatiana’s eyes, he beckoned her over. She walked through the morning mist with shaky legs.Squeezing his shoulder, she knelt beside him.

“Lisbet, Emma...this is my family now. This is Tatiana, who taught me how to live and love again, and our son Ruan.”His voice strengthened with pride and love.“I needed to bring them here, to join all the pieces of my heart together. The love you gave me created the foundation for who I am today. It helped me find my way back from darkness, helped me recognize love when it found me again.”

Tatiana leaned into him, placing one hand on Ruan’s head while the other found Jarek’s.In that moment, past and present merged into a perfect whole. The morning sun broke through the oak’s branches, warming their faces as a gentle breeze stirred the leaves around them.

She understood then that she wasn’t a replacement for what Jarek had lost but rather a continuation of love’s story. The two souls resting beneath the oak had helped shape the man she loved and, in their own way, had led him to her.

As they sat together, a family united across time and loss, the morning mist lifted, leaving behind a clear, bright day full of promise.

As Jarek stood, pressing a gentle kiss to each headstone before walking away with their cooing son, Tatiana lingered behind. Her hand traced the cool marble, and in the stillness of the morning, she made a silent promise.

“I’ll guard their place in your heart, my love.Their memory will live on in our home, in our children, in every moment of joy we share.”

She rose slowly, brushing leaves from her skirt, and took one last look at the peaceful scene. The branches swayed in a sudden gentle breeze, and for just a moment, carried in the wind, she heard what could have been a little girl’s laughter, sounding sweet and pure as morning dew.

“We know you made Daddy happy again,” the breeze seemed to whisper.“He needs to always smile like he used to.Promise you’ll help him remember how.”

Tatiana’s breath caught at the innocent wisdom in those imagined words. As she turned to follow Jarek and Ruan down the cobblestone path, she wiped away a tear and smiled.

In that sacred space between past and present, she had found not rivals for Jarek’s love but guardian angels who had helped lead him back to life...and into hers.
