Stop.
“Surely you’ll have time for at least some touristy stuff,” Gabrielle said. “There are so many iconic spots to see in the city.”
“Many of which are perfect for kissing.” Jenna wagged her eyebrows. “And also for declaring one’s love to one’s girlfriend.”
“We’ve only officially been together for forty-eight hours.” But her soft smile was a sure sign Shannon would return the sentiment if Marshall were to express it.
Which he totally would. Anyone who had seen them together knew Marshall St. John and Shannon Baker just fit. It wouldn’t surprise Jenna at all if they were engaged by Christmas.
“She’s right, Shan. That man is in love with you. He looks at you like Tyler looks at me.” Gabrielle leaned forward as if to help Shannon as she resumed shirt folding, but groaned. “I’m sorry, ladies. I think I should get home and lie down.”
“Of course.” Shannon helped her ease off the bed into a standing position. “Should we call Tyler to come to get you?”
“I’ll drive her.” Jenna checked the clock on Shannon’s side table. “I need to get home anyway. Cam is watching Liam for me, but I don’t want to take up too much of his Saturday.”
Exchanging a glance, Gabrielle and Shannon both smiled before her sister spoke. “I’m guessing he doesn’t mind too much.”
Jenna rolled her eyes, an automatic response when anyone teased her about her friendship with her boss. He was almost a decade older than her and tended to date women who were much more sophisticated than a former teen mom on antidepressants.
Even if she had dreamed of the day he might see her differently, it was never going to happen.
She helped Gabrielle to her feet. “Let’s get out of here.”
After dropping her sister off at home, Jenna headed to her own apartment complex. She checked her mail on the way in, flipping through the stack of bills as she walked toward her unit. Jenna spotted a rose-colored envelope. Stopping in the middle of the sidewalk, she examined it. Her name and address were scrawled across the front in fancy calligraphy, but there was no return address. Huh.
Jenna ran her finger under the lip of the envelope. From inside, she pulled out an invitation of some sort on heavyweight cardstock with gorgeous gold lettering.
You are invited to the inaugural meeting
of the Barefoot Sisterhood.
July 31st at seven p.m.
Barefoot B&B
Walker Beach, California
Dress is casual.
Bring yourself, your dreams … and your discretion.
What in the world? Jenna flipped the mysterious invitation over for any clues about who had sent it, but there was nothing more.
Wait, the Barefoot B&B? Someone had purchased the old place next door to the Iridescent Inn over a month ago, but nobody in town seemed to know the identity of the new owner. And according to Carlotta Jenkins, public records showed some elusive corporation as the new owner.
And what was this about a sisterhood? Why would Jenna of all people be invited? She wasn’t anyone important. Maybe every woman in town had received an invite.
But still … it could provide a bit of fun. Excitement. Dare she say, adventure?
Goodness knew Jenna Wakefield could use a little more of each one in her life.
She tucked the invitation into her purse, pulled out her phone, and added the date to her calendar.
