“You are all pathetic,” he says finally. “What should I do with you now? Maybe you need lessons! Maybe I should letOfficer Ashertrain your weak asses, huh?! How would you like that?!”

He starts to spiral with anger again, so I step closer and hold his arm on instinct to calm him down. He shoots his eyes at me, and I realize that could have been a mistake.

I watch him take a big breath and close his eyes again—I squeeze his arm a little to let him know I am here for him, I guess. He sticks out the handle of his sword to me, and I hear a gasp on my left.

His eyes snap open toward the gasp, but I don’t look. I just take the sword from him and go to his desk to lay it there. It is too heavy to hold all the time, and I’m not planning on using it.

“Why the gasp?” Cain asks a warrior with a voice full of sarcasm. “If you ever manage to beat up an army of werewolf officers, you could hold that sword too! A bunch of morons.”

He grunts and goes to the table with the 3D map that he tortured me on to get my pledge. I shudder at the memory.

Now that I think about it, I don’t know how I managed to push back all of the things he did to me long enough to have pleasurable sex with him. I guess I was always good at ignoring things I wanted to forget.

Plus, he is smoking hot. Even now, with his brows furrowed in anger while he rearranges stuff on his map.

I lean over his desk to have a better look, and quickly recognize the situation as one of the advanced exercises from my military book.

Cain gestures for everyone to come closer and starts shouting questions at his officers. Maybe they are in pain, or maybe they are just not competent enough, but they can’t figure it out.

After an hour of arguments, Cain rolls his eyes and calls me, “Officer Asher.”

I’m unsure if he is mocking me or wants me as one of his officers after all, but I don’t care. Either way, Iwillbe his Officer one day.

“Coming, Alpha,” I say, and go around his desk and map table to stand by his side.

“Tell them,” he says, sounding completely bored, and leaves me at the map with a bunch of officers I beat up yesterday.

He sits with his feet on the desk and stares at me while I explain all the tactics that can work in that particular situation.

The officers huff and grunt at first—then realize I know what I’m talking about, and in the end, listen to me with something almost like respect.

Another hour later and I’m completely absorbed by the heated discussion about the current position of the armies, of both the Rogue Kingdom and my Father’s Kingdom. I barely register someone new entering the office when Cain suddenly nods at someone behind my shoulder.

“And your Beta can…” I look to my right at the ash-blonde guy in a white t-shirt who just came in, and stop mid-sentence. No, he’s not Cain’s Beta. Cain’s Beta is already standing on the other side of the table. “So, your Beta—” I nod my head in the right direction this time but stop again.

I can’t help but turn and sniff the new guy.

Chapter 16 – THE HOT ONE

Cain’s POV

“That’s my Gamma,” I say to Asher while she sniffs Atlas, to his full amusement, knowing exactly what threw her off.

“He smells like a beta,” she admits out loud, confused. “Your pack is so weird. Beta is an Alpha, Gamma is a Beta…”

“Alpha-blooded and beta-blooded,” I correct her.

“Anyway,” she looks at the map and starts her sentence again, “Your Beta can—”

She stops yet again and turns to my Gamma—I swear we’ll never hear this sentence finished!

“I love your tattoos!” she exclaims, ogling the guy, who is indeed covered in ink from his neck to his knuckles. “Can I have a better look?”

He smirks and shoots me a look. I nod, so he takes off his white t-shirt, showing the rest of his black and grey tattoos.

‘She can’t know about the scrolls. Did you find anything?’I mind-link him in the meantime.

‘No,’ He shoots back quickly, preoccupied with my wife's reaction to him.
