I could see Weston’s point. He got into a little trouble a few nights ago and was in an elf costume as punishment. The kid was caught making out with Jennings’s daughter down by the lake and he was already warned about that behavior with an operative’s daughter. I mean, he was a kid, and I thought it was stupid to punish him, but whatever. Creed didn’t allow his brothers to go out at night around girls because they were being reformed and pretty much grounded for life. Weston was arrested for some crazy shit in California and his other brother knocked a girl up. They were both still in high school and not really going anywhere in life. They were spoiled and needed to get their shit together for the real world. The kid was dumb. He got the shit kicked out of him on a daily basis by a seven year old girl because he always did shit to piss her off. Just last week he taunted her by saying her mom was definitely pregnant with two boys. Creed had to run Weston to an emergency dentist for the cracked tooth she gave him. I hoped nobody at his school found the bruises she gave him, or CPS might have come to do a welfare check on him. Addie was grounded for a week for breaking his tooth and it was her first day out, yet she didn’t learn a damn thing. It was her first day of freedom and she couldn’t resist herself. I saw Creed walking out with her and knew he was secretly happy as hell to take her home as punishment. I wish I had an excuse to leave. I had about a million other things to do other than watch Drakos play Santa and God only knew what Melissa had planned for him in that costume later. I threw up just a little in my mouth because of that thought. I could have lived the rest of my life perfectly fine without knowing that Melissa was dominant and Drakos was her submissive.

“Maybe if the rest of us took Addie’s lead, we’d be out of here and kicking back with a beer.” Irons said as he stood next to me.

“Where’s your better half?” I asked.

He looked over at me. “You’d think being with a fellow operative would get me out of this kind of shit, but no, she’s in the ladies guild and helped plan this party. She’s off somewhere helping Steph.” He took a sip of fruit punch and scrunched his nose. “Her punky elf costume is pretty damn cute though.”

“Of course, they had to plan this when we didn’t have any units shipping out. Damn, I’d volunteer if it got me out of here. You know as well as I do Melissa has plans for that Santa suit later.”

He coughed on his fruit punch. “Thanks asshole. I could have went the day without thinking up that shit.”

I shrugged my shoulders. “If I have to think it, you can too. Where’s Morgan?” I half expected her to pop by that point.

“She’s been given strict orders to stay seated over by the Christmas tree. She has gifts for the kids later.”

I tilted my head. “They are spoiling the hell out of these kids. Hell, Santa didn’t even come to our house until I saved enough money to buy Kayla a few small things. It’s been Christmas for like a month in this community.”

He shrugged. “I can’t say too much. My uncle spoiled the hell out of me, and so did Wrenly’s dad. Those two guys really made Christmas come alive for us. Granted, I wished my parents would have come around, but it was still fun.”

“So, other than stand around in misery, what the hell are we supposed to be doing?” I asked, since I received strict orders from the ladies guild to be in attendance that day.

He shrugged his shoulders. “The fuck if I know. Wrenly only said to help where I am needed.”

“You are so pussy whipped.”

I waited for him to argue, but instead he smiled as he went for another drink of his punch. “Yep, and I’m not ashamed.”

“What the hell, Irons? Come on, you follow her around like a lost puppy. You’re a former Delta Force operative and a fucking millionaire God knows how many times over. The pussy can’t be that good.”

He shook his head as he chuckled. “You have no idea, buddy. Wait until it happens to you. You’ll understand someday.”

I gasped. “The fuck I will.” The hell with that shit.

“So, where were you last weekend?” He acted like I was hiding a secret girlfriend or something.

“That’s personal.” I warned him. They all knew better than to question me about my personal life.

“Who is she?” He pushed again.

“There is no she.” I growled.

“Okay, then who is he?” He chuckled.

“You better shut the fuck up.”

He laughed. “Damn you’re so secretive. I thought we were family, and family shares the important parts of their lives.”

“Not all families share details of every aspect of their personal lives. Anyway, you were called out last night. What happened?” I was more than happy to change the subject. Irons and Carlson were both members of the local SWAT team.

“It was a domestic disturbance. Nothing exciting, we de-escalated the situation, and one was arrested. It was more of an inconvenience than anything.”

I looked around the room and my eyes landed on Patrick Rossi. “I’m surprised Patrick came today. Didn’t he just come off a shift at the firehouse?” I asked.

“Yeah, but Morgan probably sucked Creed’s dick to make today mandatory just to torture him. Darren is also here, and Wrenly’s parents are visiting. Magnus just finished the skating rink and they’re going to open it up after the party.”

I sighed. It was something I voted against as a waste of funds. We were a military community, not the north fucking pole.

“Look at the bright side. Creed ordered hockey equipment.”
