Michael: I can believe it, we connect well, and we want the same things.

Faye: It’s been a decade, Michael. I need to see you more. Can I please come to Creed’s Lake?

Michael: I’ll come to New York instead.

I had to set the phone down for a moment. A decade, they were twenty one when they met. That meant it was only four years after Natalie. I scrolled down to the latest texts.

Faye: Are you ending us, Mike?

I scrolled up to read what he sent her In the last few days, and it was nothing but telling her they needed to talk when he had time. I set the phone down and cried. Michael wasn’t cheating on me, his wife, he was cheating on her with me.

Chapter Thirty-Two

Axton

“What the hell do you think was going through their heads when they came up with these names for their MC’s?” Magnus asked as we sat on a hilltop far away from the compound. We were watching the compound close, studying every security post and figuring out which building was what, because it was a huge property.

Sniper snorted. “The Devil’s Rejects? Do you have any idea how embarrassing it was to be a teenager, and your dad was the president? I went into the Army hoping it would all shut down before I returned. Now I have women and kids depending on me because of the old man.”

He once had Addie depending on him. “I mean, al Qaeda, Isis, Hamas. Now those guys are scary, and it’s worse when you don’t even know what the name means. Give me a disciple, a reject, or a fist and I laugh because I picture some fat dude that smells like body odor, beer, rotten pussy, and wears a leather cut. The Anarchists Fist? Jesus, it’s like they come up with a name to scare housewives and men with little dick’s like Drakos over there.” I said.

I heard Drakos really far behind us. “It’s not little, the Santa hat just made it look that way!” He yelled.

Magnus and I both laughed.

“Please don’t tell me. I learned months ago not to ask Drakos any questions I don’t want answers to.” Sniper chuckled.

I watched through my scope as a car pulled into the compound. “They’ve got visitors.”

We were freezing our asses off just west of Gary, not far from Chicago. We received word that Jeremiah was with a completely different MC and hiding out. We were able to confirm it was true through our own recon, but we hadn’t yet spotted the women, only Jeremiah.

We had the Devil’s Rejects with us because the Anarchists Fist was aligning with the same cartel that was giving Sniper trouble. Jeremiah had more friends than we ever suspected.

“I was going to tell Creed first, but...” He chuckled and shook his head. “He’s on maternity leave and all...”

Magnus elbowed him. “It’s called paternity leave, and it might not sound cool, but it’s cool.”

Sniper laughed. “Is that what he told you? That it’s a cool way of saying he’s on maternity leave?”

Magnus shrugged. “He may have mentioned that.”

I chuckled. “He has reminded us several times it’s what the badass dads do when their kids are born.”

“Okay, since Creed is now a pansy ass, I’m letting you know now. I’m dismantling the Devil’s Rejects, and I’m going to work for Darren on the SWAT team.”

My head whipped around. “What the fuck?”

“Hey, I did what I could, and I warned them. No drugs, no Mafia shit, and no human trafficking. They wanted away from the Cartels, but they still did too many drugs themselves. I never wanted that life, and I never promised my dad I’d keep it going. I’ve never touched a drug in my life, and I was expected to run the show, but I can't trust them. I lost Callie and Addie because I trusted the wrong people, and I know those men would betray me if they had the right opportunity. I’ve done what I can to straighten them up and it’s time. They can take over the damn compound and rebuild if they want, but it’ll be without me. They can buy it from me and if not, I’ll sell it to Axel. I’m fucking tired of beating my head against the wall with them. We had a good thing started with the bike shop, the car shop, and the club, but they’re going behind my back to run drugs through all three businesses. Don’t get me wrong, I have some good men, those are the guys with me, and I’ll make sure they are taken care of with the businesses. The others can eat shit.”

“Does Irons know you’ll be working with him and Wrenly?” I asked.

“Not sure yet, but it’s not like I’m not qualified. I have a degree in criminal law I earned when I was serving in the Army, served in the military police, and I don’t have a criminal record, thank God.”

Magnus chuckled. “You’ll be a clean-cut upstanding member of society.”

“That’s why I was hoping to talk to Creed. Darren recommended I stay at Creed’s Lake for a while. I have enemies that are fighting enemies and others that are your enemies. I should have been there the other night when my cartel enemies tried storming Creed’s Lake. It's pretty damn bad when I care more about the people that once thought I was their enemy than the people Igrew up with. They all turned out to be pieces of shit because of their fathers fucked up choices.”

“I don’t know man, it wasn’t that long ago, and we were on lockdown because of your MC.” I reminded him. “Not to mention we don’t know how Addie would feel about it.”
