OWEN

When I get to Leo Warner’s apartment, the last thing I expect to see is his neighbor outside of her apartment in just a towel, angrily turning her doorknob.

I stop mid-text as I watch her try one more time before letting out a defeated sigh, bringing her forehead to the surface and resting it there.

“Lock yourself out?” I ask with a smirk.

She jumps, her eyes wide as she takes a step back, looking me up and down. “Yep.”

I nod, whipping out my key to Leo’s apartment and heading inside without another word.

The smell of sausage instantly hits my nose, and I head to the kitchen to find Leo stuffing his face with his favorite sausage pizza.

“Your sister is naked in the hallway,” I tell him as I take a seat.

His pizza drops hap hazardously onto the counter in front of him. “Excuse me?” he asks, his mouth still full.

I shrug. “Your sister. She’s naked in the hallway.”

Leo Warner’s green eyes bug out of his head, his neck turning red as he turns toward the hallway leading to the front door of his fancy apartment, his shoes squeaking against the polished hardwood as he goes.

Leaning over the counter, I pick up a slice of the greasy monstrosity Leo loves and sit back in my chair, listening for what’s to come.

The door opens.

“What the fuck?” I hear Leo ask.

“I got locked out of my apartment again,” Isla Warner tells him, her voice sad.

“Why were you even out here to begin with?”

“I was sending home my latest hookup, obviously. God, Leo, it’s like you have no life.”

I know it’s a lie. He knows it’s a lie. We all know it’s a lie. But it gets him worked up anyway.

“Isla, you can’t just walk around the apartment naked.”

“Actually, I can,” she cuts him off. “That’s the entire point of an apartment. That you can walk around naked.”

“You know what I mean. Shared common spaces are different.”

“Okay, Dad.”

“Don’t call me Dad. You have one dad, and he’s not here.”

“You’re right, my bad. Sorry, I just have to inform my date from last night that he’s not my daddy.”

There’s a loud noise, and I can picture Leo’s arm hitting the doorframe. I can’t help but chuckle to myself.

“Jesus Christ, Isla, I have your spare key, just, I don’t know,” I can hear his voice get closer as he heads back inside, “chill out.”

Leo stomps back into the kitchen, his hands scrubbing his face as he pulls out his clutter drawer, taking her spare key out. I take a bite of pizza, and when his eyes meet mine, I can’t keep down the chuckle.

“Shut up.”

“Yes, Daddy.”
