Everything within me settles at his response. If he agrees to stay the night, maybe he’ll agree to see me again too, right? That’s a logical thought. He’s not running out of the door or anything, so I decide to really push my luck.
“This has been one of the best nights of my life, kitten. Next time, I want you to fuck me. Would you like that?” I ask, casually dropping in ‘next time’ and hoping that it doesn’t freak him the fuck out.
He stares at me as he thinks over my words. “I–Next time?”
“Yes. Next time.” And because I’m a complete masochist, I push. “Tell me you want to see me again.”
His eyes dart back and forth between mine before he answers.
“Yes,” he finally replies, a little breathless, confused even. “I’d like that.”
I can’t stop the smile from taking over my face. I started this day with a fake persona, pretending that I wouldn’t wallow inthe misery of the past, and ended it with the man Cupid himself chose for me. I have to believe that, believe that we were both in the right place at the right time.
“Whew, I was nervous there for a second. I thought you might tell me to fuck off and disappear like my ex did,” I say jokingly.
He frowns but doesn’t comment on my sad attempt at a joke. Lifting his hand to brush the hair from my forehead, he leans in to kiss me before whispering, “Good night, Shane.”
“Good night, kitten,” I reply.
My heart skips a beat as I watch Beau close his eyes and drift off to dreamland. I hope he’s dreaming of me, of our potential future.
Tomorrow, I’m going to ask him for a proper date.
Happy Valentine’s Day.
