"Yeah, well," Rosa says, mimicking air quotes with her fingers, "I guess Mace's dick had other plans and Star caught him with one of the new dancers."
"Of course he did," I mutter, rolling my eyes. "Men. Can't live with them and can't chloroform and bury them in the desert."
We both share a laugh at that, and I'm thankful for the distraction.
For now, I push away my thoughts of Viper and Allegra, focusing instead on my friendship with Rosa and the here and now.
CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
Viper
I'm at Satin Dreams when I see my daughter walk into the club. Allegra doesn't belong here, and when she sees me, her face goes white.
"Allegra," I growl.
"What do you want?" she hisses, and the anger in her eyes is too much.
"I don't want you here. I told you that. Now, go home," I say.
"Fuck you," Allegra spits, and the second her eyes fall on Jaxon, I see the pain in her eyes.
"What the fuck did you just say?" I growl.
"You heard me," Allegra hisses, and before I know what's happening, Jaxon's standing beside her.
"This isn't a good idea, man. Get her out of here," Jaxon says.
"Allegra, you're not allowed at the club," I say.
"Who are you kidding? This isn't even a club. It's a strip joint," she hisses.
"What are you doing here?" I hiss, and the anger in my chest is too much to handle. "Get out. Now."
"No," she cries, and when her eyes fill with tears, I almost break.
"Allegra, come with me. Please," I beg, and the moment her eyes meet mine, my heart shatters.
"Why? So, you can lock me up? Take away my freedom? Like always?" Allegra cries.
"That's not fair, and you know it," I hiss.
"You're not my father. You're not anything. To me, anyway," Allegra cries.
"That's not true," I growl.
"Isn't it? Look, if you're not going to let me be, then, I'll go," she cries, and the pain in her eyes is almost too much to handle. "Jaxon, are you coming? We have things to do."
"What?" I hiss, and the fear in her eyes makes my blood boil.
"Allegra, go home," Jaxon says, and the way he's looking at her is making me sick.
"No. I'm not going home. I don't have one. Not anymore. It's gone. All of it," she cries.
"Stop being so dramatic," I hiss.
"And, you. Don't talk to me. Don't ever talk to me. I hate you. You ruined my life," Allegra hisses, and before anyone can say another word, she's gone.
"What the fuck was that?" I hiss, turning to Jaxon. "I'm sorry, man. She's been like this for weeks. And, now, she's taken off."
