I huff. “Cary was all the bad luck I’ll ever have. I’m positive about that.”
Cary went to jail and will be there for a very long time. He did get to the mountain mansion before us and did his worst to the property. He’ll be away until Jazzy is a teenager and she’ll get to decide if she wants a relationship with him.
“Okay, fine. I’ll go get him.”
I pace in the dressing room and when the door opens and he calls in, “Lees?” my stomach rides a long, tall wave and I wonder if afternoon sickness is a thing. I didn’t have anything with Jasmine… maybe it’s a boy?
“Come in.”
“But what about?—”
“Please, I need you.”
That superstition!
Rhodes doesn’t hesitate. His eyes widen and I swear I see some shine in them. “Baby, what’s wrong? You feeling okay? You look a little pale.”
“I need to tell you something.”
He swallows hard. “Are you reconsidering?—”
“No. Not at all, but you might.”
His head tips. “What’s up?”
“I’m pregnant.”
His eyes widen even more than when he first saw me.
“You’re pregnant?”
I nod. “Thanksgiving, when Shane and Quinton had Jazzy and we went out for dinner and drinks and then we took that bubble bath. I’d say that your swimmers fought hard to get to the goal.”
He moves closer, slowly. “How are you?”
“I’m good, but I need to know if you still want to go ahead with this…”
“With getting married?”
“Yes. And with being a dad… with a lot of things.”
His hands cup my face and it’s then that I try not to bite my lip.
Caia will kill me if I get lipstick on my teeth.
“I can’t wait to be a dad… again.”
“You’re sure?”
His lips press to mine and I whimper. The attraction between us is so strong. Plus, I’m so damn horny from the pregnancy. I want to jump his bones right here and now.
But I won’t.
“Folks, everything okay?” My dad’s voice cuts into the moment.
Rhodes looks back. “Hi Grandpa.”
My dad’s face brightens. “Dang, that’s wonderful. Jazzy’s going to be a big sister. She’s going to go crazy. You ready to go?”
I nod. “I can’t wait to be your wife.”
“And I can’t wait to be your husband.” He kisses my cheek and heads out, but not before getting a handshake from Dad.
“Love wins again,” Dad says as I slip my arm through his.
And it rescued me.
