“Hey, don’t hate me. But you said to prioritize and that is what I did,” I smiled proudly.
“You mean the bedroom?” she asked. I nodded. “Well, I must give you credit, that be is so comfortable that I hated getting out of it this morning.”
“Mission accomplished,” I winked.
“Orion, don’t you look at me like that. They will be here any time,” she warned.
“Yes, but mother moves slowly and neither of them have a key to the house,” I said, scooping her up into my arms.
She protested, whiling kissing me all the way to the bedroom. I tossed her on the bed, and she started stripping off her clothes.
“I thought you said we don’t have time?” I reminded her.
“We won’t if you don’t stop talking and get over here,” she ordered.
Come on universe. Just one last favor. Let Orion catch every red light all the way here.
EPILOGUE
Mayson
“One more push. You can do it baby. You got this,” I said as she bared down one last time. She squeezed my hand so hard I wasn’t sure there was blood flow any longer. I didn’t care. In a few minutes we were about to find out if we had a son or daughter.
I used to care and said I wanted a son, because girls were tough. But if we had a daughter and she was anything like Crystal, then I would gladly have ten of those. One or two boys like me would be more than Crystal deserved.
The doctor said, “One last big push.”
She did as he said, and then everyone in the room rushed around with the baby for what seemed like an eternity. I couldn’t move, speak or breath. It was the most intense moment of my life. Then we heard it. Loud and clear. The cries of our first born.
The doctor came around with the baby wrapped in some type of towel and said, “Congratulations. You have a son.” He laidthe baby on Crystals chest so they could begin their bonding. I looked down at how tiny and fragile he was. He was...perfect.
I couldn’t help but think of my mother, and until that very moment, I had no real understanding of what she may have felt when she was forced to leave us behind. It must have been pure hell for her. But I also know what a person will do for love. And looking down at Crystal as she held our son, I saw something so beautiful. A mother’s love.
And I will do everything in my power to make sure these two are never separated.
