“An idea?” I ask, concentrating on my plate, not allowing my gaze to veer to her legs.

“I’ll film you. I was on your account, and I have some ideas for videos I think might get you even more views.”

“Like?” I still don’t look over at her. Suddenly this chicken casserole is the most interesting thing I’ve seen all week.

“Well, I’m thinking we should do something by the lake. And that horseshoe fitting one was great, but we could tweak it a little the next time you have to do it. And everyone loved you at the gender reveal, so we should offer those, too.”

I ignore the way her words make my chest warm. “Okay,” I say down to my plate.

“The more followers you get, the more you’ll show your family how seriously you’re taking this and what a good opportunity it is. You know, I was talking to Darla, and she mentioned some Walker guy is opening a spa?”

My gut twists. Is Briar thinking about working for our rival?

“He’s an asshole,” I say, hoping it deters her if that’s the case.

“That’s why if he gets any idea about what you want to do, he’s going to double down, so we need to make sure he can’t reach you even if he tries.”

I finally look up at her. She has a point. Walker likes to compete with us, but really, he copies us. Opening a spa after we offer yoga classes? He’s already building a lodge but playing it off as a bed-and-breakfast with some cute name I can’t remember.

“Let’s meet here right after you get off.” She smiles and does an excited dance in her seat. “I’m going to do more research.”

I nod, and she gets up and walks away. I finish my lunch, rinse the plate, and put it in the dishwasher. I’m not sure I want to know what she has in mind.

Chapter Eighteen

Briar

“You want me to do what?” Emmett asks, staring at the lake.

“What you usually do in the lake.” I have my phone out, ready to take a video.

“I skinny dip.” His tone is so serious, I can’t contain my laugh.

“Skinny dip?”

“Yes.”

“With someone?”

He grins. “Wouldn’t you like to know?”

“No, I really wouldn’t.”

I smother my urge to ask more questions. Whoever he skinny dips with, they’re lucky. Since I started living with him, I’ve not only forgiven Emmett for what he did in high school, but I find myself attracted to him for more than his looks. Which I shouldn’t be. Not that anyone could blame me for wanting the man. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t walk into a room without all eyes following him. But I’m pregnant with another man’s baby. I’m off a recent break-up that crushed me. So this pull toward Emmett isn’t something I can entertain.

He narrows his eyes and smirks as if he can read my mind.

“Get in there and cool off after a hard day at the ranch. You’re kind of dirty today, so that’ll work.”

“You want me to go in there fully clothed?” He looks at the lake and back at me.

“Yes. Then you’re going to take your shirt off.”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa. You trying to make me into a sex symbol?”

“As if you’d mind.” I hold up my phone. “We’re simply showing how you cool down on the ranch. If someone sees it as sexual, then that’s on them.”

“Way to twist it.” He walks around me and onto the small dock. “Want me to just fall in on my back? Dive? What will it be, director?”
