“Copy that.”

Cal swung Rachelle into his arms and sprinted the last two hundred yards to the vehicle. He yanked open the back door and stuffed her inside. “Move to the other side and drop to the floor.” He followed behind her as Rafe burst from the trees with Amy in his arms.

He shoved the ambassador’s daughter inside the vehicle. “On the floor.” He slid behind the wheel as the rest of Wolf Pack ran into view.

Rafe cranked the engine and raised the hatchback for Jon who dove into the back compartment. Once the hatchback returned to its original position, the sniper kicked out the back window.

Eli and Jackson scrambled into the vehicle, and Rafe took off.

“Any injuries?” Jackson asked.

Rachelle shook her head. Amy did the same.

The ball of ice in Cal’s stomach began to melt. Excellent. If they got the women onto the jet and into the air without injury, he’d call this mission a rousing success.

“Fantastic. I love not using my supplies on a mission.”

Eli rolled down the passenger-side window. “Let’s hope we keep it that way. Floor it, Rafe. We have a slim lead. The firefight pinpointed our location for interested parties.”

The SUV surged ahead.

Rachelle didn’t say a word, but her hand cupped Cal’s calf.

He brushed his fingers across her cheek. “A few more minutes, and we’ll be in the air.” But how many obstacles would Wolf Pack go through to make that happen?

CHAPTER FIVE

Rachelle lay flat on the floor, heart pounding in a mad rhythm. “What’s happening?” she asked Cal.

“We’re widening the distance between ourselves and the terrorists.”

“Will we lose them?”

He hesitated, then glanced at her. “Unlikely.” Cal didn’t elaborate.

Cal didn’t have to elaborate. Rachelle realized the operatives would have to fight their way to the jet. If they lost the fight, she and Amy along with the operatives would pay a heavy price.

“We can’t leave Eric in Antigua,” Amy said. “The terrorists will kill him if they find out who he is.”

“Eric’s with our second team and on his way to the jet,” Eli said.

Her breath caught. “You’re serious?”

“We never leave one of our own behind. If we could have brought Tim’s body without endangering the other team, we would have. The State Department will handle the arrangements for Tim through official channels.”

“What about my parents?”

“On a plane to Washington, D.C. No one wants you targeted in a bid to force your father’s cooperation with a terrorist agenda.” Eli paused, staring out the back window. “Jon.”

“I see them,” came the grim response.

“What is it?” She knew the floor was the safest place for her and Amy, but Rachelle hated that she couldn’t see anything.

“Three vehicles are pursuing us,” Cal murmured.

Amy gasped. “How will we escape?”

“Have a little faith. Fortress always completes a mission.”
