“How long have you been stalking Ruth?” Trace asked.

The other man flinched. “Not stalking. Watching.”

“How long?”

“Six months,” he muttered.

“You notice anyone else watching Ruth or the Monihan house?”

“Why?”

“Ruth is missing.”

On top of the table, Juan’s hands fisted. “I’ve only seen one man with her.”

“When?”

“A few days ago.”

“Be more specific,” Trace snapped. “When exactly?”

Juan looked at Bridget. “A week before you took your vacation.”

“What did he look like?” If Juan got a good look at him, they’d be one step closer to learning who took Ruth.

“Maybe six feet, dark hair, Latino like me, fancy suit and tie, expensive-looking black loafers. He had two big guys with him. Looked like a couple of thugs.”

Trace pulled out his phone and tapped his screen. He turned the phone to show Juan a picture. “Is this the man you saw with Ruth?”

Juan nodded. “Yeah, that’s the guy. Who is he?”

“Bad news. Did you confront him or his buddies?”

A snort. “I’m not stupid.”

Ben returned with pictures that he gave to Bridget. “Look through these.”

“Who is this?” Juan asked, tapping the side of Trace’s phone.

“Hugo Torino. He’s not a man you want to meet. Hugo or his buddies would have killed you to keep Ruth.”

“You said she’s missing.”

“He kidnapped her.”

“I knew something wasn’t right. I should have helped her.”

“Why do you say that?” Bridget asked.

“Roxanne, I mean Ruth, looked reluctant to go with the fancy dude. He was practically dragging her to his SUV. I should have done something.”

“You’d be dead,” Ben said flatly. “What good would you be to your family then?”

“Maybe she would have escaped. What will you do now?”

“Rescue her and make Torino wish he’d never been born.”

A great plan, in Bridget’s opinion. Now if they knew where Hugo had taken Ruth, Shadow would be in business.
