“Repeated contact with a wall will do that to you.”

“Turn and face Trace. I want to see if you need stitches.”

Oh, man. She hoped not. Bridget wasn’t a fan of needles.

Sam parted the hair at the back of her head. She whistled. “Nice gash back here.”

“Can you use strips on it?” Trace asked.

“They won’t stay in unless I shave part of her hair.”

He scowled. “Not an option.”

“Bridget?”

“Much as I hate the idea of a needle near me, I’m with Trace.”

“Stitches it is, then.” Sam lifted the weight of Bridget’s hair from her neck. “Bruising and a deep scratch.”

Trace stiffened. “They choked you?”

“One of them.”

“Do you know who hurt you?”

“Not exactly.”

His eyes narrowed. “But you have some idea.”

“Hey, interrogate her after I’ve treated her wounds,” Sam said. She dug into her bag and pulled out a kit, then dove back in and drew out a small vial of liquid and a syringe.

Bridget swallowed hard.

Rough, warm hands curled around her own. “She’s a great medic. Sam will take good care of you.”

Sam flashed him a smile. “I’ll remind you that you said that the next time I’m patching you up on a mission.”

“I promise not to whine if you give me a sucker while you’re working on me.”

Sam laughed. “Deal.”

“How’s it going in here?” Joe walked into the room.

“Bridget needs stitches at the back of her head. Figured I would let the lidocaine start to work while I finish evaluating the rest of her injuries.”

“Need anything?”

She eyed Bridget. “A soft drink with ginger and a couple ice packs. Bridget is feeling pukey.”

“On it.” He disappeared from the doorway, returning a moment later with two ice packs and a soft drink.

“Perfect. Thanks.” Sam gave her husband a quick kiss. “You staying or going?”

Joe grinned. “I’m partial to the view. I’ll stick around in case you need anything else.”

“As long as you close your eyes when I tell you. I’ll have to check Bridget’s back in a minute.”

“Not a problem. The only female back I want to see is yours, Sparky.”
