“All right. That’s it. Get out. Expect to hear from my lawyer by day’s end.”

“Sit down and shut up, Norris. I’m not intimidated by you, your lawyer, or your daddy. Aren’t you a little old to be riding on your daddy’s coattails? I know what you did, you little weasel, and I can’t be bought off like the people in this town.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” The sweat beading on his face and the fast pulse pounding in the carotid artery in his neck said otherwise. Norris’s glance flicked to Delilah.

She stared at him. Matt was right. The man she’d had nightmares about for years was a worm. “Feeling a little cornered, Sebastian? Now you know how I felt in that bathroom with you and your cohorts in crime.”

He glared. “You want money? You’re not getting it. No one would believe you.” Contempt filled his eyes. “Why would the captain of the football team have any interest in touching Two-Ton Delilah? You’ll be the laughingstock of Harmony. Again.”

Before two heartbeats passed, Matt grabbed Sebastian’s lapels, hauled him off the edge of the desk where he’d been perched, and slammed his back against the wall. Two framed photographs fell to the floor, glass shattering on impact.

Behind Delilah, the knob rattled but the door didn’t open. “Sebastian, are you all right? Sebastian!” The woman pounded on the door.

“Tell her you’re fine.” Matt’s voice was cool in direct contrast to the fury in his gaze.

Sebastian swallowed hard. “I’m fine, Trish. A picture fell off the wall. Go back to your work.”

“Are you sure?”

“Trish, do as I told you.”

Trish’s footsteps faded away as she returned to her desk.

“How much do you want?” Sebastian snapped. “This is about money, isn’t it, Delilah?”

“I don’t know. You tell me.”

A puzzled look. “You want me to buy your silence for that misunderstanding in high school, right? How much do you want?”

Matt growled and shoved his forearm against Sebastian’s throat. “Misunderstanding?”

“He’s not worth bruised knuckles.” Delilah laid her hand on Matt’s back, her touch gentle.

He shifted his weight until Sebastian’s face reddened, panic filling his gaze. No matter how he twisted and jerked to throw off the operative’s hold, Matt didn’t budge.

Delilah tried again, concerned Matt would seriously harm Sebastian. She’d never seen him so angry. “Matt.”

“Move back.”

Understanding his need to protect her trumped everything else, Delilah returned to the far side of the desk, away from Sebastian’s reach.

The medic released Sebastian who slid to the floor, gasping for air. “If you insult Delilah again, I’ll lay you out. Am I making myself clear, Norris?”

He nodded.

“We want answers to a few questions. If you don’t give us what we want voluntarily, we’ll get the answers the hard way.” A cold smile curved Matt’s mouth. “You won’t like how I’ll learn the information we need, but I’ll enjoy watching you squirm in pain. And you will tell me everything I want to know. You won’t be able to spill your secrets fast enough.”

“Information?” Sebastian’s voice came out hoarse. “That’s all you want?”

“Unless I have reason to believe you conspired to hurt Delilah recently, that’s all.” He paused. “For now. Give me what I want and you walk away unharmed.”

“Not much of a bargain.”

“It’s all you’re going to get.” Although he didn’t take his attention from Sebastian, Matt spoke to Delilah. “Ask your questions, sweetheart.”

Sebastian’s eyes narrowed. “You’re her boyfriend?”

“Where were you three nights ago, Sebastian?” Delilah asked.
