“Right?! That’s the part I don’t get. Sasha has no reason to lie to me. I’m literallynothingto him.” I shook my head, brows furrowed as I tried to sort through the different explanations. “But is my dad that much of a fucking asshole to not only refuse to pay whatever ransom they wanted but then to also blatantly lie to my face?”

“Yes,” she answered, completely deadpan.

Sighing, I rubbed my eyes with one hand. I didn’t want to believe it, but yeah. He was. It was a bitter pill to swallow, realizing you don’t mean jack shit to your family despite your best efforts.

She poked my rib. “Did you tell the police about him?”

“Who?” I opened an eye to glare at her.

“The dude you keep talking about. Sasha.”

“Yeah... Why?” Nope. Total lie.

“Because it’s a little weird you keep referring to him by name. You know? The guy who kidnapped you, imprisoned you, beat you...” She raised her brows at me, her brown eyes round with worry.

“It’s the only name I know.” Lie.

“What did he look like?”

Returning my gaze to the ceiling, I sputtered out an awkward noise, complete with a noncommittal shrug. “I don’t know. Like a criminal? Big. Lots of tattoos. That sort of thing.”

“Is he hot?”

“Ugh, Frankie! Doyouthink everyone with a dick is hot?”

“That wasn’t a no…”

“No!” And another lie. It was amazing how easily they rolled off my tongue.

“So no freaky deaky role play with a hot Russian? A little BDSM? Exploring your kinky side?” She shimmied her shoulders, wiggling closer to me and looking pointedly at the red marks visible on my wrists.

“Oh yeah,” I grinned at her, nodding emphatically. “He pretended to be a kidnapper and I was his helpless victim. It wasgreat. Especially when he handcuffed me to the bed.”

“So hot… Did you call him Daddy?”

I shot her an unamused look. “For the love of God, no.”

She cackled before snuggling in with a wistful sigh, resting her cheek against my shoulder. “In all seriousness, though. Are you ok? I mean… the robbery. Now this. It’s alot. You don’t have to pretend to be ok.”

“I know…”

“So,areyou?”

I exhaled a breath, trying to figure out what the fuck I was even feeling. “I don’t know,” I mumbled, lacing my fingers through hers. “I don’t know what to think, what to feel. I’m just… numb. I keep thinking I’m going to wake up and this is all going to be some fucked up dream.”

“Just remember I’m here for you, Roan. I’m always here for you.”

“I know.” I pressed a kiss to her forehead and closed my eyes, hoping tomorrow I’d wake up with amnesia and all would be right in the world.

Sasha

I drovearound for hours looking for Roan, fear and anger squeezing my chest with each minute that ticked by. Eduard monitored the police scanners while he waited at the house with Ivan. All for nothing. Roan was gone. I lost him.

Furious and defeated, I returned to the house to get some fucking answers.

Eduard was down in the basement with Ivan when I arrived. The kid was tied to a chair, bleeding and sweating profusely. Eduard had gotten started without me, which was fine. He hadn’t learned anything useful and Ivan was probably safer in Eduard’s hands than mine at the moment.
