“The Maldives don’t,” I added with a smile.

“Mhmm.”

“Are you not relaxing, my love?”

“Your idea of relaxing is wholly different than mine,” he said, glancing pointedly at his leg before he met my eyes again.

“I don’t think it’s all that different. I mean, they both involve a bed. Or, the lounge chairs on the roof… or the sail boat... or—”

“Need I remind you,” Leander interrupted, his tone as unamused as his face. “I ripped a stitch open the last time we tried relaxing your way.”

“I don’t know about you, but I took that as a crowning achievement. The orgasm to end all orgasms.” I did a little chef’s kiss and grinned at him. “You’re welcome.”

“If you’re this rapacious while I’m wounded, I shudder to think what you’re going to be like when I’m fully healed.”

“I’ll be gentle. I promise,” I purred, slipping my hand inside his pajama pants. I gasped, eyes widening as my hand wrapped around his hardening length. “What? What isthis? Why, I never… What do you have to say for yourself, Mr. Welles?”

He glared at me at the same time his hips tipped upward, stroking himself against my hand. “You have the worst bedside manner I’ve ever seen.”

“Or the best. Depends on your point of view.”

“You are impossible.”

“It’s why you love me.”

“Is it?” A dark brow arched slightly, the corner of his lips curling into a smirk.

I gave him a mocking glare before biting my lip and ducking underneath the blanket.

“Bennett...” He tried to swat me away as I crawled up onto the couch, wedging a knee between his legs and straddling his thigh. “Don’t you dare! Don’t you—”

Popping out from beneath the blanket, I perched above him carefully, making sure to balance my weight so none of it was on him. “Were you saying something, my love?”

Brushing my hair out of my eyes, he gave methatlook, a small smile pulling at the corner of his mouth. “Kiss me.”

He didn’t have to tell me twice. It’s all I ever wanted to do, now and for the rest of our lives.

Leander

One year later

The golden light of another day gone slanted through the windows, illuminating the rows of books. I shelved the last of my stack and headed toward the cash register where Luciana was tallying the day’s sales.

“Did you ever hear from the buyer in Rome?” I asked, leaning against the antique counter.

“Yes. He’s flying in at the end of the week to sit down with you.”

“Perfect. Thank you.”

A bell chimed from the front door, despite the CLOSED sign hanging in the window. Suppressing a smile, I turned and folded my arms over my chest, adopting a serious expression. “I’m sorry sir, the store’s closed.”

“Does that mean I have to come back tomorrow?” Bennett asked, sauntering forward, his head canted to one side.

“If you’d like.”

“And the day after that? And the day afterthat?” He bit his lower lip and stopped right in front of me.
