“I’m on the pill,” she repeated, wrapping her legs around his waist. She locked her ankles and arched upward, managing to tease his tip inside. “Jake,” she panted. “It’s okay. I need you.”

Never.

“Are you sure?”

He’d never had sex without suiting up before.

“I’m sure.”

Not with any woman.

“I’m clean,” he rasped, physically shaking from the effort of holding back.

Only this woman.

“Me too.” She squirmed against him. “Jake, please.”

Only her.

Always her.

With a roar, he surged into her, a whirlpool of feelings pulling him under like a riptide.

They say your life flashes before your eyes when you die. What about when you find your other half? The person who completes you. The one who glues the broken pieces of your soul back together without you even realizing it’s happening.

It was all there in a flash. His future life with Laurel… moving in together, getting married, having children, sharing a life, sitting on the porch in the rocking chairs he wanted more than he’d ever realized.

Everything he never dreamed he’d be good enough to deserve, he’d found in her. She was his redemption. His impossible winning ticket to the life of his dreams. Laurel was his… everything, he realized. Absolutely everything.

“I love you,” he whispered, before taking her mouth in a kiss that offered up his heart, as scuffed and battered as it may be.

Her walls started clenching down around his thick girth. The feel of being sheathed inside her as he continued to pull out and thrust back in was intensified by the hot slickness of no barriers between them. When he felt his balls tighten, he picked up the pace, repeatedly ramming into her, making the table scuff against the floor.

“Jake,” Laurel whimpered, digging her nails into his shoulders seconds before she splintered apart. A few strokes more and he joined her.

He continued thrusting until every last sensation and shiver had been wrung from their bodies. Breathing heavily and glistening with sweat, he collapsed onto his forearms above her, framed her face with his hands, and kissed her tenderly.

“A-plus, plus, plus,” he said with a grin, making her giggle. It was only then that he realized she was lying on a hard oak table. “Shit, Princess, I’m sorry. I should’ve taken you to bed, but I couldn’t wait.”

“I’m glad you didn’t.”

Jake pulled her into a sitting position, then scooped her up bridal style. He carried her to his room and laid her on the bed before disappearing into the adjoining bathroom.

She flopped back, sinking into the thick comforter with a satisfied moan. “So much better.”

He returned a moment later with a warm, damp washcloth. “It’s a little messier without a condom.”

Laurel blushed. Damn, he loved that blush.

“A little,” she said with a coy smile. “But, wow.”

“Definite wow.”

Once she was cleaned up, he had her slide over and joined her on the bed, pulling the far side of the comforter over them. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close—something she’d better get used to because he’d made up his mind…. He was never letting her go.

Chapter Thirty-One

Laurel snuggled next to Jake until their foreheads touched. He’d said something earlier—at least, she’d thought he’d said something, but now she wasn’t sure. Maybe she’d imagined it because she wanted so badly for it to be true. She was terrified to ask, but she wanted to know. She needed to know if he felt the same way about her as she did about him.
