It was a nice little arrangement. Once his daughter was cured, Ethan would offer him a much better deal, one he wouldn’t be able to refuse.

“Pleasure doing business with you,” Ethan chuckled as he walked out of the building.

“It’s done,”Ethan told Matthias over the phone.

“Expecting any trouble?”

“No. None at all. I got the message across.”

“Dropping off the envelope?”

Ethan grunted and hung up. Normally, Matthias wasn’t one for asking questions, but once he got started, he didn’t stop. Ethan was not in the mood for questions.

But when was he?

Ethan’s grip on the envelope tightened as he walked closer to her house. Margery had become so paranoid that she was now leaving to go to a cabin for a couple of days.

He had done that.

He loved every second of it.

He just wished he could feel her pulse when she found the envelope. He wanted to feel her heart racing and see the turmoil that crossed her face.

But that wasn’t going to happen. He wouldn’t be able to feel her heart rate pick up when she saw what was inside the envelope.

He couldn’t wait for the day when she was finally in his arms. But that day wasn’t today. He still wanted to have a little bit more fun. Not all the stuffed animals had been delivered. Ethan wasn’t about to end the game early.

Where was the fun in that?

Quietly, Ethan walked up the steps to her porch. Hegently placed the envelope down on the ground and waited a couple of seconds. She was moving inside, her footsteps gave her away.

He wished it was dark so he could slip into her house and get close. To smell her body wash on her. To hear her breathing pick up when she realized somebody was watching her. To see the fear filter across her face.

Ethan groaned and adjusted his pants. He couldn’t wait for that time.

He was just going to have to be patient.

CHAPTER SEVEN

MARGERY

Margery was leaving for the cabin today. Something she was really looking forward to. She didn’t realize how much she needed this until Adalisa suggested it.

But first, she needed to go out and get a couple of things. Adalisa said there wasn’t going to be any food in the cabin. Margery didn’t like to cook much, but she didn’t want to buy a lot of fast food and eat that while she was at the cabin. She wanted home-cooked food that she wouldn’t have to reheat necessarily, but it would still be amazing.

Yeah, Adalisa mentioned it was an old place, and it didn’t have a microwave. She thought it was strange, but it was her aunt’s place. If she didn’t want to update anything, she didn’t have to. Why waste money when she wasn’t even living there?

Margery also wanted to stop and get a couple of books. Maybe she could sit and read while enjoying the outside. There weren’t going to be any car noises to distract her as she tried to read.

She wanted to take full advantage of this, and she planned to. She wasn’t going to be responsible for anybody but herself, which was normal, but she also felt like she had to be mindful of the people around her in the city. Being out where there was nobody gave her the freedom not to have to worry.

Grabbing her keys, she left her house, locking it before turning around. Her foot stepped on something uneven. Drawing her eyebrows together, she looked at the envelope on her porch, confused. When did that get put there? Normally, people put things in the mailbox, not on the front porch.

Margery bent down and picked it up. The only thing that was written on there was her name. Maybe it was one of her neighbors who wanted to give her something but didn’t want to put it in her mailbox.

Some people were weird like that, but she wasn’t going to complain or judge. She honestly would probably do the same thing. Margery didn’t want to have her neighbors think she was taking their mail.

Though, she didn’t really have to worry about that since she didn’t interact with her neighbors much. They were all older people who were stuck up. People who wanted to be alone and didn’t want to interact with anybody.
