“Yes, Mac. As I recall, once you beat my ass and fuck my pussy nice and hard, you’re supposed to quit fussing at me.”

“Point taken.” Mac laughed and nodded. “But start asking for help instead of just going off on your own.”

Before she could reply, there was a sharp knock on the door, which then opened.

“You two decent? Well, it doesn’t really matter. If you have a bunch of hungry marshals coming out for supper, we need to start cooking,” Mandy said from behind the door.

“What time is it?” Willa asked.

Mandy stuck her head in the bedroom as Willa stretched and yawned.

“Really, Mac? You couldn’t let the girl have a decent night’s sleep?”

“I slept very well,” Willa asserted. “What little he actually let me sleep.”

Mac lightly patted her backside. “I would think, Cowgirl, you’d want to go easy on the sass with me today.”

Willa grabbed a pillow, hit him over the head, leapt out of bed, then ran into the bathroom.

“Mac?” Mandy said. “John and Gus need your help setting up the spit and getting the side of beef started.”

“Nice try, Mrs. Hampton. Get out of my bedroom, so I can put some clothes on.”

“But Willa says the Mighty Mac is an impressive sight.” She laughed, ducking behind the door as Mac threw his pillow at her.

“Willa McDaniel, get your ass out of that bathroom right this minute.”

The door flung open, and Willa’s eyes widened in surprise. There on the floor of their bedroom, completely naked, was her Mac, down on one knee with a ring in his hand.

“What did you call me?”

“You heard me, Cowgirl. I called you Willa McDaniel. I’m willing to negotiate about a lot of things, but I have three non-negotiables. One, we’re getting married; two, you’re changing your last name; and three, I’m putting this ring on your finger before we leave this bedroom.”

“You could ask me nicely,” she teased.

“Or I could do it the way John did and paddle your backside while I put this ring on your finger.”

“No,” Willa exclaimed. “She never told me.”

“I don’t care. Get your ass over here, and let’s put this ring on your finger.”

She sauntered over to him. “You really want to marry me, Marshal McDaniel?”

“I’ve never wanted anything more in my entire life.”

He stood up and pulled her close before placing the ring on her offered finger.

“It’s gorgeous, Mac, like a sunrise.”

“They’re like you—bright, magical, and full of the promise of what each new day will bring. Be my sunrise, Willa.”

“Only if you’ll be my sunsets—deep, seductive, with the assurance of comfort and renewal.”

He lightly grasped her buttocks, drawing her more tightly against him as she wrapped her arms around his neck.

“Forever mine, Willa.”

“Always and forever, Mac.”
