“Yeah, I’m still here. The gate’s not open yet, though,” the woman said, pointing in front of her.

“Yes, Mr. McCauliffe said he’s not expecting anything. Sorry.”

“Oh, my mistake. I should have clarified. It’s asurprisespecial delivery.” Her eyes went wide again, and she smiled broadly directly at the camera.

A cold tingle crawled up my spine. “I’m afraid he’s not accepting visitors at the moment.”

“Come on. I drove all the way up here this morning, fought the traffic. I have to deliver this; it’s critical. Please,” she said, a hint of desperation tinging her voice.

I debated what to do. On the one hand, Liam said he wasn’t expecting anything, but on the other, she did say it was a surprise. What if it had something to do with his job? Or the gala last night?

“Hang on,” I said, then jogged back to the bathroom. “Hey, Liam? She said it’s a surprise delivery and it’s important. What should I do? She’s not going away.”

Liam cut the water, wrapping a towel around his waist before stepping out of the shower. He bent down, dropping a wet kiss on my lips. “Buzz her in. I’ll be out in a second.”

“Okay,” I said, relieved I wouldn’t have to deal with the persistent delivery lady. Liam could handle her in a few.

I trotted back to the intercom, hitting the button to let her in.

Beep.I watched the gate swing open and the lady smiled, waving at the camera, before she drove forward.

“Hurry up, Liam. She’s already pulling in,” I hollered toward the bathroom.

“Alright, alright,” Liam said, emerging from the bathroom totally naked.

I watched as he threw on a pair of black gym shorts and a grey T-shirt, the clothes barely disguising his chiseled physique beneath the cotton.

“What?” Liam asked, narrowing his eyes at me.

“Nothing. Just taking you all in.”

Ring. Ring. Ring.

Another chime, this time from downstairs. The doorbell.

“I’ll take care of this. Coffee’s in the kitchen. I have regular and espresso, you pick. Be there in a minute,” he said, brushing his lips with mine.

“Mm-kay,” I said, his freshly showered scent entrancing me, leaving me breathless.

Liam smiled at me, brushing his fingertips down my arm as he left the room. A few moments later, I tiptoed quietly down the stairs, hoping to avoid the delivery woman at the front door and slip discreetly into the kitchen.

Unfortunately, I mistimed things and was standing on the bottom stair landing just as Liam opened the front door, effectively trapped. Liam’s back was to me as I peered around the corner, and I debated if I could skate by unseen.

Probably not. Now I’d have to stand here until they were finished.#Awkward.

“Hey, Liam.” I recognized the woman’s bright voice from the intercom.

“Uh, hey, Aria. What are you doing here?” Liam’s deep voice echoed off the hardwood floors.

Liam knew the delivery person? Odd.

“Surprise! Special delivery for you,” she said.

Even more curious now, I poked my head out further, trying to see what exactly she was delivering.

“What?” Liam scrubbed the back of his neck, angling his body to the side. I could make out the silhouette of the delivery woman—Aria—and she appeared very round. As in super-pregnant round. And she was rubbing her belly like a damn genie, trying to make a wish.

“It’s me. I’m the special delivery. You’re going to be a dad!”
