“Whoa. Have you actually managed to get Macy to settle down anddate?” Quinn asked, his voice filled with awe.

“Uh,” I said, my face flaming. I definitely did not want to have this conversation in front of the entire family.

“Dude. Well done,” Quinn said, nodding. “That’s really impressive.”

He did look genuinely stunned.

“Macy’s a great girl. You guys are a cute couple!” Bree said, smiling enthusiastically at me.

“I like her,” Delaney said, chiming in.

Super. Glad everyone at the table had an opinion on the matter.

“Liam, I’ll look after the store in the afternoon so you can take Macy to Peach Fest,” Pops said, folding his arms over his chest as if to settle the matter. Gigi swiveled her head to glare at him, her eyebrows raised, but didn’t protest.

“Are you sure? I can cover it. Jolene’s supposed to work the afternoon shift.”

“I got it. You enjoy yourself. You’ve been working hard. Everyone needs time off,” Pops said.

“I can go in with you, Pops,” Quinn said, smoothing the situation over.

“That’s a done deal then,” Pops said. “Enjoy the festival.”

“Okay. Thanks,” I said.

With that settled, talk turned to the spring season of football—Ryder was coaching again—and just how good the team was going to be. I only half-listened, my mind occupied with thoughts of Macy, Peach Fest, and how I could convince her to move to L.A. with me.

Saturday dawned bright and sunny, with temps in the mid-seventies. Perfect weather for Peach Fest. I went for a quick jog, then showered and got dressed for my date with Macy. I tried on a few different shirts, but ultimately settled on a dark blue polo with jeans. Casual, but nice. I’d hoped the run would burn off my nervous energy, but I still felt amped, my gut churning.

Relax, Liam. You’ve already been on a date with Macy. And spent the night together multiple times. This is no biggie.

Except it felt like it was. I could almost hear the tick-tock of the clock banging in my head. I had to get back to L.A. soon. Macy and I were at a crossroads, even if neither of us wanted to admit it. I knew I had to convince her to come back with me and I hoped today would be the day.

Buzz-buzz.I snapped up my phone, reading the text.

Benji: You coming to the benefit next weekend?

Shit.I’d forgotten all about the benefit, what with everything going on here. Let’s be real—with everything going on between me and Macy.

Benji: It’ll be kinda weird if you don’t show at your own fundraiser

I typed back:

Liam: I’ll be there. Do me a favor and put me down for two at your table.

Benji: Two, huh? Name?

I rolled my neck, debating how much detail to give. It’d be better if she had an official nameplate, but I didn’t even know if she’d go with me yet.

I typed, then erased, then typed again.Fuck it. Might as well commit. I could always say she got food poisoning or something if she didn’t want to come.

Liam: Macy Grace

Benji: Sounds serious. Is she the reason I don’t have an answer on the app yet?

I debated telling him to fuck off, but took the high road instead.
