Could I do serious?

I honestly didn’t even know if I’d be capable of a real, adult relationship. But one thing was for sure—I better figure it the hell out, sooner rather than later, before both of us got hurt.

LIAM

Idebated texting Macy most of the day. I wanted to know how she was doing after last night, to see how her morning went. And I definitely wanted to see her again, preferably as soon as possible. But I waited, doing my best to give her space and time to sort out her feelings. She obviously had a lot of pent-up emotion to work through and I figured I shouldn’t get in the way of that.

Luckily, the general store kept me busy most of the morning. A delivery came in first thing, giving me lots of boxes to unload and shelves to stock. I also had a call with a twenty-first century credit card reader company and worked on accounts payable. Somehow, I managed to make it all the way through lunch without texting her, but I felt my resolve slip-slipping away.

Buzz-buzz.

Flipping my phone over on the counter, I read the text:

Macy: Thank you for the flowers. They’re gorgeous

I smiled down at the phone and tapped out a quick response:

Liam: Glad you liked them. When can I see you again?

I hit ‘send,’ ignoring the tightness in my chest, the tension building in my body. Only a few seconds passed, but it felt like an hour. Finally, she texted back.

Macy: I’m working tonight at the Rowdy. And tmrw night. And the next. I’m on all week, thru Saturday

Without hesitation, I responded:

Liam: See you tonight then

At this rate, I’d have a regular seat at the bar and might need to switch to drinking club soda, but I needed to see her again.

“Hey cuz, what’s up?” Quinn strode into the store, the tinkling of the door chimes pulling me back to reality.

I slid my phone back into my pocket and tried to act normal. I didn’t feel like skirting the Macy thing with Quinn.

“How’s Macy doing? I heard y’all have been spending a lot of time together.”

No such luck.

Quinn smirked at me, his grey eyes narrowed, as I floundered and searched for the minimum amount of info I could share.

I settled on, “She’s good.”

“Mm-hmm. How good?” Quinn waggled his brows at me, and my gut clenched. For the first time since I’d been here, I kinda missed L.A. and the anonymity that came with it.

“Normal good.” I busied myself with the register, smoothing the dollar bills down in the drawer to avoid eye contact. Quinn was undeterred.

“I have it on good authority that the largest single floral arrangement ever seen in Peachtree Grove was delivered this morning. Any idea who those flowers might have gone to?”

Damn, this guy wasn’t giving up.

Sighing, I said, “Fine. You got me. I sent Macy flowers.”

“Ah, now we’re getting somewhere.” Quinn rested one elbow casually on the counter and leaned in towards me; he clearly wasn’t leaving until he had more details.

I glanced up at him, meeting his steady grey gaze. “I went over last night and we watched a movie. Had a good time. So I sent her flowers this morning. That’s all.”

“Geesh, I’m gonna start calling you Romeo. You’ll be giving all the men in town a bad name, you keep this shit up.” He raked a hand through his hair, shaking his head as if I’d just let all the menfolk within a fifty-mile radius down.
