“Great. Thanks, guys.”

“We’ll have everything ready by sunset; all you have to do is show up, looking like the handsome devil you are,” Ryder said, clapping me on the back.

I laughed, happy to be with my cousins—my family—again. Being gone so long, I’d forgotten how great it was being together. “That I can do.”

“Let’s not stand around all day,” Quinn grumbled, although he had a half-smile on his face as well. “We’ve got work to do and I’m assuming you’re gonna shower?”

I nodded. “Yes, definitely. See you at the park.”

“Go,” Quinn said, shoving me towards his truck. “It’s gonna take you a while to get ready and you can’t keep Cinderella waiting.”

Climbing into the truck, I fired up the engine and rolled down the window. “No, definitely not. I almost lost her once; I’m not risking it again.”

No matter how hard I tried, I could not get out of girls’ night. First, I texted Delaney to cancel. She immediately responded:

Delaney: NO! You CAN’T! I already closed the bakery early for the day and got my morning shift covered. Because tonight we’re going to PARTY!

Well, shit. No way could I cancel after reading that.

Then, when Everly came home from school, I feigned a headache. “I don’t feel great, Ev. Go on without me.” I waved in her direction from my spot on the couch, giving her my best pained expression.

“Nuh-uh. Not falling for it, sis. Come on—we never hang out anymore, you’re always working! You already took the night off. Let’s not waste it,” she said, dragging me towards the shower. “Get going. The girls will be here in a little less than an hour. And wear that little black dress, the one with the low-cut neckline. It’s perfect for dancing in the city!”

She shoved me into my bathroom, slamming the door behind me.

So that ploy hadn’t worked either. Looked like I’d be going to girls’ night whether I liked it or not.

It wasn’t that I didn’t want to hang out with Delaney, Bree, and Everly; they were fun, and I knew we’d have a good time. I would just rather be hanging out with Liam instead. No offense to any of them...

Ever since Liam and I had reconciled, things between us had been better—and hotter—than ever. So yeah, given a choice, I’d spend my one night off this week in bed with Liam instead of on a dance floor in Buckhead with the girls.

Sighing, I reconciled myself to my fate, turning on the shower. I guessed I should make the best of it.

An hour later, Everly and I were dressed and ready to go. Per my sister’s suggestion, I wore the LBD and my strappy nude stilettos, plus a pair of diamond studs Liam had given me.

“Damn, sis, hawt!” Everly said when I walked out of my bedroom. “Love, love, love the earrings. And your hair is on point.” She ran her hand over one of the blond waves I’d curled into my hair. “Sexy!”

“Uh, thanks,” I said, shooting her a wan smile. “You look gorgeous as well.”

Everly had chosen a turquoise mini dress with a full skirt and a cinched waist, her long dark hair cascading over her shoulders. She’d gone bold with her make-up, a few coats of black mascara with a pop of bright red lipstick.

“Thanks,” she said, linking her arm in mine. “Come on, Delaney texted me. The car’s waiting for us downstairs.”

We made our way down the steps, out to the black SUV idling in the lot.

“Hey!” Delaney cried as we climbed into the back.

“Hey girl,” Everly squealed back.

Bree and I waved at each other as the driver closed the door behind us and we settled into our seats.

“Who’s up for champagne?” Delaney asked, already pouring both of us tall flutes of bubbly.

“Me, me, me!” Everly cried, accepting the glass and sipping. “It’s so great that we don’t have to drive. Love it!”
