“Pity. I’ll have to get you some that are.”

That had me picturing a large box with my name on it and inside, a value-pack of vibrators.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“You’ll need them for when I call and talk you through giving yourself an orgasm after you leave.”

I didn’t know what to say. My leaving when Grace returned had been the elephant in the room that neither of us had brought up before.

“Or we could do it like tonight, without aids,” he continued. “And of course, we could meet halfway some weekends—say in Colombia or Savannah.”

Debbie had been adamant that I needed to break it off and not leave things in limbo—or worse yet, let him dictate the situation.

“I’m not sure…” I started, unable to say more. I hadn’t scripted my it’s-been-fun-but speech yet.

“I think we should try long distance for a while,” he blurted before I could say anything.

My man didn’t want to let me go.

His words reached through all my defenses and grabbed my heart. “Really?”

Boone

I rolledoff the bed after hanging up with Angela.

What a night. Phone sex wasn’t as good as the real thing, but I was going to have to get used to that for a while.

Cleaning up in the bathroom, I allowed myself a huge smile. I’d gotten her to agree to keep things going between us after she left for her mother’s. That was a huge win after her previous declaration that we weretemporary.

A glance at the bathtub had me imagining Angela again—naked and soapy in the tub, crooking her finger at me to join her. I felt my dick rising again. “Down, boy. Once is enough for tonight.” It would have to be. Without any oil, I’d be tempted to rub myself raw fantasizing about her, and then I’d be out of commission until the skin healed. That wouldn’t do.

It had only been since I’d left early this morning, and God, I already missed her. If she’d shot down the idea of continued contact after she left, what would I have done? Continued to fight was the only answer. Letting her go now was unthinkable.

The looming question for the future was how long would it take for her to be comfortable returning to Clear Lake?

She’d said she planned to change her name to keep her asshole ex from tracking her down, but at some point, that fear had to subside. The guy had to lose interest once he moved on to a new woman in his life.

Or there was the option of making it clear to the fucker that she was mine now and off limits to him. The problem with that was I had no information on this guy beyond the name Kevin.

When I got back to my hotel room after the dinner meeting with the distributor, I’d had a text message from Rosella at the hardware store. I’d called Angela first, but now I opened the message again.

ROSELLA: We have to get the ordering software to work. I can’t take this.

I’d bugged the software company, but Rosella was right. It was time to up the pressure on them.

CHAPTER32

Angela

The next morning,Boone woke me with gentle kisses. The maniac had driven all the way back before dawn just to say good morning and call me his girl.

I indulged in a decadently long shower after sending him away with plenty of kisses of my own. We probably had enough time, but I’d said no to the suggestion that we could get frisky again this morning. It disappointed me as much as him, but a girl had to maintain control of the situation.

A bit later, in the big house, Boone deposited his breakfast plate in the sink and surprised me again. “How about lunch at the Beach Kitchen? It looks like the weather is going to cooperate.”

I wished he hadn’t asked. “Not today, but thanks.” I opened the refrigerator to hide my face as I spoke. “I’ve got to scout a location, and I’m not sure I’ll be back until later.” I hated that I was keeping my real mission from him. I didn’t have much time for Pris’s project, and I’d promised her to keep my snooping secret. That went double for her brothers.
