Winston smiled. “Wanna dance, Sandstorm?”
Sandy had already earned a nickname.
They wandered off.
I corralled Serena for a moment. “How are things in London?”
Duke joined us.
“Great, except that I had to agree to report to my brother instead of Dad,” she said.
“The weather isn’t great for riding my bike,” Duke added. “And they drink their beer warm.”
Serena leaned in. “Thank you for getting me the job.”
“I didn’t do anything,” I protested.
“Whatever you say,” she replied.
When I found Kelly, she had her arm around Adam, and they were laughing up a storm with Dennis and Jennifer, which was good to see.
I found Lloyd and Robin off to the side.
“Do I have you to thank for this?” I asked.
Lloyd answered. “You’re a part of the family now. This is what we do for each other.”
His answer warmed me. As I looked around at all the love, I realized these people truly were my family now.
“I wanted to thank you for that recording you made for me,” I told him.
Robin took his hand.
He looked down at his wife, eyes full of love. “It wasn’t easy for Robin to get me to see my part in this, but I meant it when I said thank you for being the catalyst for these changes.”
“We’re going on our first cruise next month,” Robin said with obvious excitement.
Lloyd patted his ample midsection. “I don’t know if I’m going to be able to handle the all-you-can-eat part of the experience.”
Josh joined us. “He’ll have to do laps on the upper deck.” He tugged me to his side. “I need to take my fiancée now. Our song is coming up.” He pulled me to the dance floor, and just as he predicted, “My Girl” by the Temptations began to play.
I melted into his arms as we swayed to the music and he sang the song in my ear. The rest of the family rapidly joined us, turning the floor into a mass of swaying couples.
My man had made my happiest dreams come true. I nestled my head against his chest, close to the heart that now was mine, as mine was his.
Tonight, I wouldn’t argue. Being hisgirlwas perfect.
