For the second time,I guided Nicole through the front door of Aldolfo’s with a hand at the small of her back. The feel of her under my touch was just as electric as before.

“Hopefully the third time is the charm,” I told Nicole as the hostess showed us to a table.

Nicole held up crossed fingers as she walked in front of me.

All I could focus on was the sway of her ass and what I knew lay beneath the dress—a dress I planned to have on the floor the second we got behind closed doors.

Our waiter arrived shortly after we were seated.

“Could we start with an order of bruschetta, but without the shrimp?” I asked him.

“You remembered,” Nicole said.

“Naturally.” I turned to our waiter. “And a chardonnay for the lady. I’ll have a…make that two chardonnays, please.”

He hurried off.

“You don’t have to change your wine order for me.” She winked. “I think we’ve already bonded.”

Bondedwas too mild a word for how I felt.

The wink of her green eye meant it took me a few seconds to formulate a complete sentence. “I just wanted to pick up where we left off last time.”

“Going well, was it?”

I nodded. “I thought so.” I tapped my forehead. “I have a very vivid memory of sitting across from the most gorgeous girl in town when we were interrupted. And tonight is looking very much the same.”Gorgeousseemed too mild a word for how she looked tonight. Knowing how soft her skin was only amplified her allure.

Her cute insta-blush returned. “Woman. And, that’s not how I remember it.”

“It was definitely like that. We were about to order, and she was soon going to tell me all of her most intimate secrets.”

“Intimate? Hardly. I think we were going to start with you. You’re the enigma, after all. I’m pretty boring.”

“Don’t sell yourself short, Nickels.” She and boring weren’t in the same universe.

“The way I remember it, you had just tried your best pickup lines on me, and they weren’t very good.”

“They were pretty bad, weren’t they?”

“Terrible.”

Our waiter returned with our wine and appetizer.

After a quick recheck of the menu, she chose the penne siciliana, and I ordered the scaloppine al limone.

I raise my glass. “To no emergency calls tonight.”

Nicole repeated the toast and clinked glasses with me before we drank, and I got to watch my beautiful date swallow as I remembered kissing that neck of hers.

“This is about where we got interrupted last time,” I said.

She laughed. “I turned my phone off, just in case.”

I pulled mine out of my pocket. “Good idea.” I swiped it off.

She picked up a bruschetta. “If we’re going to get to know each other, tell me something embarrassing about yourself.”
