She smiled. “A leg man?”

“When it comes to you, Sugarbear, I’m an everything man.”

I turned awayto hide my blush. “Because you asked nicely.” I was completely naked, but that didn’t embarrass me one tenth as much as when he said something insanely nice.

Adam dried off while I was blowing my hair out. Guys had it so easy. He dressed in a loose fitting T-shirt that hid his muscular chest and cargo shorts before heading downstairs.

I chose a scoopneck top to go with the shortest pair of running shorts I owned. The man had demanded a show, and that’s what he was going to get. I added more mascara. Checking out my legs in the mirror, I decided they weren’t bad, but having him say he wanted to watch them all day sent an odd tingle up my back. I was dressing for him, and instead of feeling put out, I felt good. Turning both ways in front of the mirror, I smiled.

He likes my legs. Who woulda thunk?

Downstairs, I found Adam in the kitchen. I twirled around once for him. “Okay?”

He nodded. “Perfect, but then you’d make a burlap sack look sexy.”

I grabbed my tea mug. “Stop trying to embarrass me.”

He sipped his coffee. “Okay. You look terrible.”

He put down his cup and rubbed his hands together. “We need to get going, Sugarbear.”

“But I haven’t had my tea yet,” I complained.

“We’ll get it on the way.”

“But I wantmytea.”

“Sure.” He walked to the tin where I kept my teabags, grabbed several, and stuffed them in one of his pockets. “Let’s get going.”

That wasn’t what I meant, but it was better than nothing. I followed him to the door, picking my purse up off the table.

“You’re not taking that.”

He was right, with a broken strap I needed to swap.

I ignored his rudeness. “I’ll just be a minute moving things over to my other purse.”

“Not today. We’re traveling light.”

“I don’t ever go out without my purse. Where will I put my keys?”

He pulled the house key I’d given him out of his pocket. “Got us covered. Traveling light means no purse. Bring your phone along, if you want.”

I tried to stare him down, but gave that up after a few seconds. His eyes carried a steely determination I wasn’t going to overcome.

I stated the obvious. “I don’t have any pockets in this.”

He held his hand out. “I’ll carry it for you then.”

I handed him the phone. “And a few more things.”

He opened the Velcro on one of his pockets to deposit the phone.

“Sunscreen,” I said, handing him the tube. “Mascara,” I added as I searched for it in my purse and handed it over.
