It was a new week, and I’d finished off the last one without making a fool of myself with Jennifer after the kiss to shut down Melissa.

It had taken all of my self control to not ask her to dinner—a dinner I would certainly have wanted to take further, with her as the dessert.

Just the thought made my dick swell. But that was dangerous.

We’d had sandwiches brought in for a few lunch meetings with just the two of us in my office. That had been tempting enough.

It had been impossible to tell how she’d felt about the kiss. She hadn’t brought it up, or even hinted at it since, and I hadn’t either.

Professionalhad been the watchword. No hand holding, no touching, and absolutely no kissing. I’d shortened her name to Jenn, but I hadn’t slipped up and called her Angel again. The name fit her, though. She had been nothing but good luck since she’d started upstairs.

Cindy appeared at my open door, came in, and closed it behind her.

“You’ve created a problem,” she said.

“What did I do now?”

“You asked Jennifer to go with you this weekend to your father’s fundraiser for the museum.”

She’d actually invited herself, but Cindy didn’t need to know that. “Yes?”

“She doesn’t have anything to wear. She’s too proud to mention it, but I don’t think you understand how big a problem it can be for someone in her financial situation.”

This had been the first I’d heard of money problems for Jennifer.

“Thanks for letting me know.” I picked up my phone and dialed Jennifer’s extension. “Come down here. We have to go out.”

“Where? What should I bring?” she asked.

“Nothing. Just make it quick.” I hung up before she could ask another question.

Cindy opened the door. “Thank you.”

“I’ll take care of it. Please ask Karl to bring the car around.”

She gave me a thumbs up.

Jennifer arrived a moment later.

Cindy winkedat me as I walked up.

When I got to his office, Dennis was slipping into his jacket.

“I thought we were meeting at three,” I said.

“Change of plans. We’re going out.”

I couldn’t keep my mouth shut. “Where?”

He didn’t answer, just moved past me toward the elevator.

I hurried behind him.
