It was Larry. His door had been closed, and I’d been wrong to assume he’d gone for the day.
“How about tomorrow?” Dennis asked.

“This needs to be on the wire at six in the morning. It has to be tonight.”

Larry didn’t give up. “I really need your input to get this right.”
I heard the shuffle of papers above me as I scraped my teeth lightly over him.
Larry tapped the desk. “You okay?”
“Sure. The timing just sucks.”

Dennis tried once more to get rid of him. “I’ll look at it later and leave you my notes before I leave. How’s that?”
“I can wait,” Larry replied.
He wasn’t going anywhere quickly.
This was going to be a contest. I held back a laugh. Could I get Dennis to come before he got rid of Larry? I went about the task of pulling, licking, and sucking, careful to stay quiet as they talked through the two paragraphs Larry wanted to go over.
Larry didn’t say anything more about Dennis’s obviously halting speech.
I was going to get lockjaw if this went on too long. I used my hands more, and the tenseness in Dennis’s legs told me I almost had him at the end of his rope.
“Thanks. That helps,” Larry said.
I heard him scoot his chair back.
“Next time find me earlier,” Dennis said. “And lock the door on your way out. I have to finish something here, and I can’t be interrupted.”
Larry chuckled. “Sure.” I heard the click as he turned the lock on the knob and closed the door.
Dennis pushed back and away from me. In an instant he had me out of my hiding place and on my feet.
